    Linkshare Affiliate ID
    This is a dumb question.
Where is my "Linkshare Affiliate ID".?
I have examined product links and I am presuming that it is:
    id=*#########0&bids=

As you can see I have an asterick right of the id= and a 0 before the &
those are part of my id right? What is the deal with the asterick?

    Please help
    Tami

    Hi Tami,

Login to your account > Click on the link "HELP" > Then "Creating Links > more... "

Q15. How do I understand LinkShare linking code?

    1. Redirect: Each link starts with the location of the LinkShare server.
    2. Affiliate ID: (id=lMh2Xiq9xN0) This tells LinkShare from which affiliate the click came.
    3. Offer ID: (&offerid=7097.10000034) The numbers before the decimal tell LinkShare
what offer the affiliate is in (baseline, special offer etc). The numbers after the decimal
tell LinkShare exactly what link in that offer has been clicked on (and any corresponding landing page etc).
    4. Sub Affiliate ID: (&subid=0) If the affiliate has multiple sites that it manages through a single
LinkShare account, each site has a subID.
    5. Link Type: (&type=4) This tells LinkShare what kind of link has been clicked on (banner, text etc)
    Hope this helps

    Yes that does help!
    Thanks Art!

I am still curious of the asterisk in my id, what if anything does this mean? Anyone else have an asterisk?

I'm really not sure ... just a suggestion ... Maybe the asterisk * character matches zero or more characters?

I'm not sure I follow you? I do know that there is supposed to be 11 numerals/characters total in the id. Counting the asterisk that does make eleven. The only reason I could think of is maybe I am a sub-affiliate of someone? It has been years since I joined Linkshare so I do not remeber if I signed up under anyone.

Art, I would like to welcome you also! I did not notice your "Newbie" status at first. Welcome!

    Thanks

I don't think the asterisk means anything, my ID has it, too.

Isn't it time for LinkShare to clean their Help Section?
I wonder who's really in charge? What a lousy job!

It seems that the Help section has the last priority for most of the networks
But maybe it's also true that many of the affiliates don't often use this section.

I don't think there's any significance in the asterisk ie it's not some code meaning you're a sub-affiliate. As you mentioned, LS uses 11 characters in their code, and it includes asterisks and slashes - I don't have an asterisk in my LS affiliate id but I do have a slash.

I posted this recently in a differend thread as Herb was asking for it. There are actually two different IDs. Here's what I wrote for Herb:

"Your LS ID is a 5-7 digit number like 123987 or such. For reasons only known to LS you cannot get it from your accounts page. You can find it by going to your 'Sales and Activity Report'. Below the table is a link 'DOWNLOAD THIS REPORT'. Hover (not click!) your cursor over the link and and look at the status bar at the bottom of your browser, you should see something like ht.tp://areport.linksynergy.com/...download_report.shtml?name=activitygrid&id=1234567&nid=1&orderby=mname. The 1234567 is your LS ID. [I know it's difficult to find, buy hey, it's LS] Knowing the number is helpful if you communicate with your LS merchants, especially bigger ones. One example is the GigaGolf competition that is organized by LS ID (http://forum.abestweb.com/showpost.p...25&postcount=8)

Your link ID is within the i.e. product link: <a href="ht.tp://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=XXXXXXXX&offerid=12345.98765&type=2&subid=0" > where XXXXXXX is some cryptic mix of numbers, letters and asterixes, something like a3*sfgr*SDF."

No, I'm not. I guess 'ID in the link' may be better.

    Thanks for pointing this out

Great point, LearnAbout! I was going to mention that, but didn't have time to get the full details.

There are actually three ID's at LinkShare.

    1) Your username, which you chose when you signed up.

    2) An entity ID, which is a short (5-6 digit) numeric field. You can also find this number by going to "Update Profile" and looking at the link for your legal entity, which will be something like ssl.linksynergy.com...channel_manager-entity.shtml?chloginid=12345. LinkShare and some merchants also refer to this as an SID (Site ID?). It's the same ID used in merchandiser (datafeed) files, and the documentation there referrs to it as an "Affiliate ID". They also say this about it: "The SID is LinkShare’s constant numeric value representing a particular affiliate site. "

    3) The 11 character site code (which includes upper and lower case letters, numbers, and a few special characters), which gets included in all of your links. LinkShare calls this an "affiliate tracking code" and "Affiliate ID" in their help.

It's a bit confusing that LinkShare refers to two different things as an "Affiliate ID".

I think your LinkShare merchants can look you up using any of those things (or your site name or your email address or your name).

On the merchant interface LS calls the 11 character code the "Encrypted Code Keyword"

LinkShare has Member ID Tracking / Signature / u1 (all different names for the same thing). You have to request access to the reports, but basically you just add "&u1=whatever" to any of your links.
