Website downtime due to domain/host transfer?
I never planned on doing this so the thought never crossed my mind until now.

I'm moving everything from 2 different registrars and one host to godaddy.com either tonight or tomorrow morning. What kind of downtime can I expect?

None if you leave them at the original hosting company until they're firmly entrenched at the other also. That's my plan anyway. If my site is down for 5 minutes I'd be losing money so I'm not gonna dump my current host until I'm sure the site is securely working on the new one. Someone else will be along to explain the tech end, I'm sure (sure hope so anyway LOL).
    Peace,

I've done this a few times with various sites and have never noticed any down time. The key is as Rexanne said, don't let go of the last vine until you've got a good grip on the next one.

If I have to do this, I usually start it late Friday or Saturday night when traffic is at a minimum and doesn't get going until later on the following day - just in case. Means it happens during around 12 hours of lowest traffic - just in case it goes wrong somehow.

I haven't canceled my old hosting yet.

Now I'm all kinds of giddy. I'm going from ~94% server usage to 0.14%.

What wouldn't you do with 100gb of server space?
