I get a lot of targeted traffic to my games page. On that page I also have links to all my shopping pages. What I want to do and don't know if this will kill me with the search engines is pull the menu to the shopping pages for a day or 2 just to see if I can get more leads from the games. I probably have about 200 visitors a day clicking off to the shopping section but I don't think they are buying much. Most of my sales come from targeted listings in the search engines right to the shopping pages.

Do you think if the spiders come by and the menu to all my other pages is gone that it will hurt all my page listings? Does this make sense? Thanks

Why not just move the links to the bottom of the page, spiders would still find them, and a lot less visitors would see them.

qball, I have always put a lot of time in trying to get those pages noticed. I didn't even think of just putting them out of sight lol. Good idea! Jeeeez so simple. <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif>

    Hey Gameboy!

Although I don't think I'm the best person to help you with this (Dynamoo is much better), I will try to answer it the best I can. I have some experience with these things, and here is what I think...

I would suppose that your menu is text based, meaning the links on your menu are text links and NOT images. Almost all spiders rate your page based on the content of the page, especially Google. So, If your menu includes some important keywords for your listing, then YES, taking out the menu WILL hurt your ranking. If the menu links are images, then there should be no problem.

I agree with qball0213, but there is something bothering me. If your menu is at the bottom, then the HTML for it is at the end of the page. I was thinking if the position of the keywords on your page has anything to do with your ranking. I wouldn't know that, but it is just a thought.

Here is some reading for you to do. You should find some very usefull information here about search engines. http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/features.html

    Now, go do your homework.

Alex, yes my menu is all text links. None of it really relates to the main page that it is on. The links are on my game page and link to my shopping pages so it wouldn't really hurt the game page because of the placement of the links. They really aren't keyword related to that page. I put them on the so they could be picked up by the engines. Thanks for your help and when I get some time later I'll check that link out.
