    Have you tried doing a system restore?
    This is a nice feature in XP.

    Otherwise, I would rebuild the profile manually - once a profile is corrupted, it can get messy trying to figure out what to fix.

    Best of luck!

    Here is a great link/tutorial on how to use system restore:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...w_03may19.mspx

    and another on your exact problem:
    http://techrepublic.com.com/5102-22-5481772.html

    The one down side is that you will need to be logged-in with an account with administrator privileges.

    What's Restored and What's Not
    Restored

    * Registry
    * Profiles (local only—roaming user profiles not impacted by restore)
    * COM+ DB
    * WFP.dll cache
    * WMI DB
    * IIS Metabase
    * Files with extensions listed in the <include> portion of the Monitored File Extensions list in the System Restore section of the Platform SDK

    Not Restored

    * DRM settings
    * SAM hives (does not restore passwords)
    * WPA settings (Windows authentication information is not restored)
    * Specific directories/files listed in the Monitored File Extensions list in the System Restore section of the Platform SDK
    * Any file with an extension not listed as <included> in the Monitored File Extensions list in the System Restore section of the Platform SDK
    * Items listed in both Filesnottobackup and KeysnottoRestore (hklm->system->controlset001->control->backuprestore->filesnottobackup and keysnottorestore)
    * User-created data stored in the user profile
    * Contents of redirected folders

    Best of luck!

    if i am the sole user of my PC,
    how can i sure or make it i am log in as administrator

    p.s.
    currently windows xp just log me on to a temporary profile logon only, not a permanent new profile log on

    If the temporary account that Windows XP creates for you when your original becomes damaged has Computer Administrator privileges, you can use it as a staging area for the recovery operation. If it’s not, you’ll need to log off, then log on to the default Administrator account or to another account that has Computer Administrator privileges.

    You can verify what accounts are present (and what privileges they have) on the machine by using the Control Panel and launch the User Accounts tool. Or, open the Start menu, right-click My Computer, and select Properties. When you see the System Properties dialog box, select the Advanced tab. Then, locate and click the Settings button in the User Profiles section. You’ll now see a User Profiles dialog box.

    Sorry, I am not an XP machine right now so this info is from memory and a couple of articles on the web...
