I found out that google has threatend to sue a person for "typosquating".

WTFeathers is the world coming to?

The domain name in question is gogole.com

The thread was posted at geek and it sounded like it had been an expired domain used in france where the word gogole is slang for idiot.

Just some FYI about google

Heyder...there was a guy that was active in the CJ forums (don't know if he migrated her). He had microosoft.com I vaguely recall him saying something about Microsoft coming after him and he won....He still has the name.

    Very interesting

I'm not involved in this in any form but I really think it's time to put this dung to rest.

Yeah...it's amazing sometimes...I would almost be impossible to register every variation of a domain name...with the extensions and misspellings...I guess the easiest way is to go after them after the fact...I do have a problem with the word 'gogole'. I've never heard that word here in the states, but if it truly is slang for idiot, I couldn't see google having a case (unless the gogole site looks an awful lot like the google site)...

It's a slang term in france not the us.

At least that's what he claims.

I can believe it...when I said 'I had a problem', it wasn't with the word itself..it was with the fact that it was slang and google was going after him...I've heard some slang here (in Europe...their '***' and our '***' are two extremely different things)

I have a problem with these kind of domains, and I am getting sick and tired of running into these type of sites all over the place, especially when they try to get you to set them as your homepage :
    goggle.com
    bluesclues.com

Grrrrr... These sites are all over the place , yet "I" get accused trademark infringement

There have been many such cases, basically their is deception involved and unjust enrichment for the typosquatter. If the gogle.com site had content that related to what they represent it to mean they could defend their name and usage, but when it goes directly to google they, and others like them, have a snowballs' chance in h#ll!

Microosoft.com, I believe is owned by Don C Siets(handle the same) or something like that.
