do you mean the final game? didn't they have two games yesterday?

the US has a tough road against italy and mexico, but mx lost to the Netherlands last night 2-1, so maybe it's not a good year for them.

don't know what I was watching last night, I guess i'm looking forward to it too.

Oh, boy! It is coming closer and closer, and I haven't even yet decided what team to root for... Brazil? Portugal? Korea? The last one has been coached for this World Cup by a D. Advocat that is gonna coach my home-team (FC Zenit of St. Petersburg, Russia) right after the WC!

The games start on the 6th of June for the World Cup. I think the U-21 World Cup is going on right now. US does indeed have a tough draw, with the Czech Republic and Italy sure to give them a tough game. I left out Ghana, but I could see them advancing as well.

gota go with the local flavor down here in Argentina, but I'll be cheering for the US as long as they last ;-)

Adam, Thanks for the correction on who is playing who, the last time I looked at the schedule before today was after having a couple of drinks with the neighbor ;-)

The USA does't have a chance to get out of the group with that pipsqueek-loudmouth Donovan on the pitch.

USA did very well in the last world cup, especially compared to what's expected of them, in which they ripped nice one for Spain as well. They got more experience now, so my bet is they will be in the final 8.

I believe the finals will be among two European teams: Germany vs (England, France or Italy).

And the surprisingly good teams will be:
    Ukraine
    Australia
    Iran

Switzerland prevented us, Turkey, from going to the WorldCup so I hope they lose all the games

That was ancient history (the US playing on Korea)

Can't see Germany getting that far with the team they have..

Can't count out Netherlands or France....

I agree, with the surprises.. Ukraine, Austrilia, Iran,, can add one of the African teams too.. Ivory Coast, Togo, Ghana, Angola... never know.,.,..;l

Ivory coast has great players. I expect them to make it pretty far.

Spain didn't kick much ass when they played us (Russia) a week ago!
We're just getting up to speed. Give the team another week and they'll be invincible.

In 2002 I ended up crying when Spain was robbed and lost against Korea in the quarter finals. I'm pretty confident we'll make it at least to the semis this year (although it looks like we'll meet Brazil in quarters )

    C'mon England.
Javi, I'm sorry to say that Spain will choke again - they do at every major tournament.

    Brazil will probably win.

Like Sam Bay, I think Ukraine will be the surprise team this time around.

Put plenty of money on Shevchenko of the Ukraine or Pauleta from Portugal to win the golden boot. Koller (Czech Republic) might also be a good bet, but they've got a tough group.

Deep down I think you might be right about Spain

Is Koller that giant guy? I really don't see him as the golden boot but I do agree with Shevchenko although Klose would be my bet.

    Go Geno
Geno, why not root for Australia? ("...I haven't even yet decided what team to root for... Brazil?")

It has been 32 years since we last made it to the world cup!!!!

Soccer is not our national football game it comes second after Rugby and Australian Rules Footbal ( similar to Gealic football).

Plus in Australian slang "root" mean something else over than support or cheer for ( which is what I presume you mean ). Something that is done with enthusiasm and vigour and not spoken about on threads like this . So if you wish to 'root' for Australia ...mmm... go ahead ...but it definitely isn't a world cup sport yet or even in the Olympics.
