Ebay Email About The New Links
In case you don't get it for some reason:

Recently you received updates from Commission Junction regarding its Link
    Management Initiative (LMI).

Many of you have asked us what eBay's recommendation is regarding LMI and the
promotions you are currently running for eBay. We have been working on a new
HTML tracking methodology specifically for eBay that will work seamlessly with
the Commission Junction interface so that all of the current reporting
capabilities will remain supported. While we do not have a deployment date, we
are confident that it will be deployed prior to the holiday season, and we
recommend waiting to change any tags related to eBay US and eBay International
auction-related accounts until the new eBay tag schema is available. Given that
Commission Junction is taking a phased approach for publishers to change out
their tags, we think this approach will cause you the least amount of
    disruption.

We urge publishers who have questions about Commission Junction's LMI to read
the update notice posted in the Message section of their CJ Account Manager home
page and to read the FAQ linked within that notice.

As always we look forward to your feedback and questions, and to the continued
growth of all our affiliate partnerships.

    Sincerely,

    The eBay Affiliate Team

    Which holiday season, Christmas?

So they are suggesting all CJ/eBay affiliates wait until Q4?

    Boy, they sure were vague!

I'm guessing near the end of Q3, if not a little before.

Are there any other merchants trying to support HTML links like EBAY?

What does this say about eBay's view of the LMI? Since money is the main motivator here, I have to think that they believe that it is in their best interest of their business to retain HTML links in some manner. I think that it has to say something that a large merchant like eBay is developing a solution to retain HTML links (and essentially advising affiliates not to switch over to the Javascript links because they will be rolling out this system).

On a side note, wouldn't you think that eBay would have been one of the merchants consulted on the LMI?

Sounds like CJ is trying to help eBay find a workaround to these new Javascript links!

And ebay is just the first we will be hearing from. Now that other merchants know that CJ is supporting a merchant that wants to still use HTML links and work around JavaScrips, it will only be a matter of time until others do the same.

MERCHANTS, Take Heed! If CJ is allowing one merchant, then the doors are open for others. Start contacting CJ and let them know you want their help in a work around also.

Well, several of us made a big-assed stink over on Ebay's affiliate forum abut the LMI, plus more importantly I'm sure enough tech folks at Ebay took a look at CJ's proposition and came back with "Are you out of your ****ing mind???? You want Ebay to remain part of CJ, you WILL create a workaround for us."

Ebay is big enough that they have the clout to pull it off... not sure that smaller merchants would get the same (if any) response.

I wonder how long it will take CJ to realize that they'll be enacting workarounds for 90% of the merchants out there, which defeats the purpose of this whole cluster**** to begin with.

So you'll have half of the CJ programming staff (Darryl) working on this JavaScript abortion... and the other half (the other Darryl) working on ways around it.

Effective use of resources, wouldn't you say?

You would think. They have to be one of CJ's biggest merchants and they were kept in the dark about all this??? Bizarre to say the least.

What does that say about how CJ views eBay and the other merchants? What does that say about WHY CJ is doing this? If CJ is allowing work arounds what's the point in keeping JS mandatory?

    Curiouser and curiouser .....
