ALL,

After you have been approved by a merchant (that you have thoroughly investigated), how long does it take you to put up at least a link, if not a page or complete site dedicated to that merchant?
0 days - 3 days

4 days - 7 days

8 days - 10 days

10 days - 14 days

14 days - 30 days

30 days - 60 days

60 days - 1 year
Usually 0-3 days
but at times 10 to 14 days
usually this happens if I'm looking for a merchant to fill a void, and then I have to wait for approval.
Nothing like waiting to put the fire out!

If they approve me automatically I usually put on their link immediately. If they don't, it may be a very long time before I get to it, if ever. If I use a competing merchant instead, who approved me right away, I'll see how that one does, and maybe replace them with the other. Or maybe not.

I like missdonna's answer, with the addition of good deals or companies I have dealt with and would recommend. In that case I may join sooner and then figure out where I can put them on my sites (which may be a while depending on the situation).

As above, if a merchant approves quickly or immediately they are put on within a couple days most times.
I am almost at the point that ones that I have waited for a month or two for approval may just wait just as long for me to do anything with their program. I don't put a lot of faith in ones who take forever to approve. Would they be that uninterested to quickly answer any questions or help with problems as they are with approvals.

    My results vary.

    - ASAP if I know my visitors would benefit.
    - 1 to 3 days if its CPC (7 day testing period).
    - 10 to 30 days if I'm writing a review.

At the moment I have a about 10 CJ advertisers I've been accepted for but haven't yet placed anywhere. It might be another couple of months before I do anything with them but chances are is that they'll drop me before I get the chance to promote them in a way that is beneficial to both of us.

No one to blame but me if I get dropped.

    It depends.....

If a merchant auto-approve...then it will be: 0-3 days (or even in a couple hour)

If a merchant does not auto-approve, then it will take: 4-7 days.
(or more than 30 days, depending on the email approval...if it's so confincing....)
may be NEVER if I already got a replacement for that merchant.

As others have said, the time it takes for them to approve me weighs heavily in the mix. Not out of spite (well, mostly not), but due to the fact that I probably replaced them with another merchant, I'm on to promoting something else, and 100 other factors that come up between applying and approval.

If they have a respectable approval rate (2-3 days), then the link will probably go up in 4-7 days. If they take a month to approve, they'll get linked when I bloody well have some spare time... unless they have no competition and I know I can sell their stuff.

Usually pretty quick. But right now I am in the process of building a new site and so it is going to take about 3 weeks from when I applied.

Lots of times unless I was recommended to use them I don't do much investigating before I sign up.

First I sign up then I investigate and it can take months before I link them. I like to see how that company does business over a longer period of time. Do they drop commissions, lower cookies, not pay, send me lots of Paul Burke (spam) or have product links that don't exist but still get offered.

    0-3 days ...

Because I was inspired in a dream the night before

But seriously ... I usually have scouted out the Merchant - checked prices - shopping cart procedures - load times ... before I apply and pretty much have an idea how they are going to fit into a program.

    Oh yeah ... In CJ's case ... I make sure they don't sport a 92.3% charge-back rate

    Regards,
    Dave

I signed up at LinkShare about 10 months ago. I applied to a few merchants I wanted to promote.
A few days ago (18/02/02), I received an email:

quote:
Congratulations! Gump's.com (Hanover Direct Inc) has approved you into their
    Affiliate Program!

To begin participating in the program immediately, simply place one or
more of the links below into your Web site.

This took over 9 months to approve.
Now I have no idea what this merchant sells, or why I was going to promote them. Stupid memory. There is still a merchant on my to-be-approved list... applied at the same time.
I prefer automatic approval.. usually because I have an idea, the an in the mood to make it happen... a week or so later, the vibe is gone & I've moved on.
BUT: if I was running an affiliate program (which would be CPC or a lead program because of my sites), I would want to approve each affiliate.
For CPA (sales) I would have it set to auto-approve.

0-3 days for links is more than enough, but it takes longer for whole website. I would say a week max for a whole website.

0-3 days Unless it's like MissDonna says-

When I'm applying to merchants. It's usually because I am working on my site and getting rid of old non performers or building a new catagory page.

If the merchant is auto-approve, the links go up between Immediately and One Week. Most of the time it's Immediately--as in, same night--but sometimes I see a new merchant (in that "new" list) and sign up--those can wait up to a week because I wasn't already looking for another merchant in those cases (impulse signups). It's never more than a week unless I notice something (bad) that I missed when I checked it out at first, or if I have a suspicion that the program may change for the worse soon.

The NON auto-approvers get ONE DAY to say Yes, and if I'm all set to promote a certain product I won't wait that long!! I'll find a place that WILL approve immediately. Places that take two days and up to say Yes are very likely to find that their place has a one-line mention at the bottom of an ad page dedicated to another merchant ("Another place that has Product X is ThisMerchant.com")! Once I finally knuckle down to make a page I want to get ON with it! You could say "they'd better strike while the iron's hot".

If a place has a commission that's WAY higher than any other similar merchant I may wait a couple of days extra for the Yes, but then it's on to other things.

Merchants that take a MONTH to approve?? Ha ha, those'll NEVER get on my sites, period. And, since they didn't have the courtesy to respond to my app. in a reasonable amount of time, I won't show them the courtesy of officially dropping them, at least not for months! Usually those really slow merchants are dead and gone in a few more months anyway so I don't have to bother...

In my case, when the merchant fits to my existing sites it takes me 0-30 days to put his links.

But when the new merchant is for my new domains (under construction) it usually takes me much more time, sometimes 60-120 days.

Last night I had a great idea. I found a domain to match. I was approved by the merchant who had auto approve. I was up until 2am creating the pages. I ordered the hosting today. The site will be live and listed on some of the ppc sites by midnight tonight.

On the flip side, I applied to JC Penney's program through Linkshare over 15 months ago and it is still "pending approval". -Stupid.
