I don't know if this is funny or pathetic or both.
I am shocked that the ABW community doesn't have a thread about this, it's posted everywhere.

An individual had found a T-Mobile Sidekick in a NYC taxi cab.

The owner sent messages to the device asking for it's return.

The reply he got could be summed up with "Finder's Keepers Losers Weepers", but with more profanity and less mastery of the English language.

Well, since the individual was stupid enough to use her AOL SN to reply, the owner of the device found a myspace and several pics.

The rest will go down in history as one of the biggest public humiliations ever.

I am not sure I understand why not just cancel the service? Your phone or mobile device gets stolen or lost then you report it immediately so you are not responsible for the charges. Letting someone bascially use it so you can be a vigilante might just backfire.

While I love the idea, and apparently the thiefs deserve it, seems like somewhat of a ploy to get attention.

Looking at the guy's main site, there's a chance he's trying to generate some attention.

Too bad his site looks broken in firefox.

Wow, I'm amazed at the amount of traffic Digg.com can drive. That site truly is a phenomenon to get this guy 6 radio interviews in 48 hours.

So what if the guy wants attention!!

All that the jerks would've had to do to avoid being on that site is give the phone back.
I say more power to the one who made that site, and good on him if it brings him oceans of attention.

Yeah... but I wonder how Digg itself got known? Coolness only works once people know about it being there in the first place.

*finally bothers to check out that site*

I see it's supposed to be "technology news" (although this swiped-phone story doesn't exactly fit what I'd call "tech news!"). Where's the Digg-like site for the more general subjects? I'm sure I could come up with something worthy of a front-page listing at some point, if I had an open field category-wise...

I find the amount of traffic more phenomenal...like what I've read about the Slashdot Effect.

400,000 hits is the figure I recall from the last time I read that missing-phone page, and that was yesterday.

Now to figure out how to get that much traffic--and at least a 1% CR from it. 4,000 orders in 1 day...yesss!

The page got slashdotted, it killed his forums within seconds. There's a blurb in the New York Times and MSNBC.

And 220k inbound links from blogs/forums/etc. Building that much recognition that fast is incredible.

I should sign up for his forum, add a couple aff stores to my sig and make a few "me too" posts. PR Leak from that site would be incredible.

I thought of offering that guy a forum when he was asking a couple of days ago, and sticking my banners on the top. But then I saw the forum traffic had already killed a dedicated server...

I did it. I got four referrals out of it.

I don't see the inbound link through Google yet, only a matter of time.
