Question Buy an Item from own link??
Is it ok to buy items from merchants using your own affiliate links? I an not talking CPC links but merchants that pay a percentage of sale.

    Hi kse,

Welcome to the forum. The answer is...it depends on the merchant. Some allow personal purchases and others do not. You need to check the terms of service to be sure (or email the affiliate manager).

What Ken said Each merchant has their own rules, and it should be stated in the affiliate TOS for each program.

I've made several purchases with my own links, and have been dissappointed at the number of times they did NOT track the sale. Fortunately I had the email receipt and in all cases eventually got paid, but it makes me wonder how many times a customer's order does not track either (and I'll never know about it unless it's a friend who tells me he ordered).

Some merchants even encourage you to use your own links, which makes perfect sense to me... it's still money in the merchants pocket whether it comes from you or a visitor to your site, so why should they care either way?

If you think about buying through your own links as an "honesty check" on the merchant, then it's easy to see why some don't want you to do that.

Yes. The only instances I've known where it's been a problem is Amazon and hosting merchants. Amazon will sooner or later reverse self purchases. With hosting merchants, you have to really read the terms to see what's allowed. Outside of that, I can't think of even 1 merchant having a problem with affiliates buying thru their own links.

I think most consider it a kind of friends and family discount, so long as you're driving other customers to them.
