    Vacation Season
Well... it's coming up to that time of year again... Vacation Season. I thought it would be nice to hear if anyone has any big plans and maybe find out the popular places to be this summer.

I am taking a week off next month to go to Nova Scotia to visit the family and hopefully get in a few games of golf. My fiance and I are driving out so it should be a good time.

Maybe I will indulge myself in a lobster or two.

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"

That phrase fits me too well

Actually, if things go well, I might try to sneak off to the beach a few times, and do a bit of fishin'

Nothing exotic here. Hershey Pa for 4days for my son's 7th birthday (4th of July) and in August a week or so in NC & Williamsburg Va. Also a quick weekend/day trip for my daughter's 9th birthday Labor Day weekend. Other than that like moneybiz we will do daily trips zoo, beach, parks, museums, maybe Statue of Liberty... Going to make sure I do at least 1 of those a week.

I just got back from a week in Varadero, Cuba with my younger sister! We had a fantastic time. Did a catamaran cruise out to a gorgeous island, a jeep tour inland, and also a trip to Havana, which was...interesting, to say the least.

So looks like my trip was taken a bit early in vacation season...but it was a good one.

Doesn't look like I'm going to have time for any lengthy vacations this summer due to work load and family responsibilities, but plan to do lots of day and overnight weekend trips in efforts to compensate. In Canada our summers are so short - we have to try and make the most of them while they last!

End of July I'm headed back to Niagara Falls for a friend's bday to do the casino/shopping thing on both Ontario, Canada and Buffalo,NY sides of the falls (prices on a lot of things are cheaper in US than in CAN for some reason so even w/ the exchange it makes for good savings).

In mid-August we plan to rent a cottage for a few days up in Muskoka which is beautiful cottage/beach/boating/fishing country for those of us here in Ontario, Canada.

Last night our little family took a drive down to the Toronto beaches to have dinner at a pub/grill there, walk the boardwalk, skip stones on the lake water and share ice cream sundaes... these are my mini vacations for when I can't take a "REAL" one just yet...

We're planning to get away somewhere hot, sunny and full of tropical greenery this winter though (our winter weather runs from about November to March). Ahhh that will be nice.

Our main vacation is usually in the worst part of winter (late Jan, early Feb) and we go somewhere warm for a week or two. Then we spend May-Oct transporting our life 2 hrs north every Friday night or Sat morning to our sailboat and reverse the process on Sun night. Near the end of August, the "guys" are going to take the boat further north to Washington Island and the "wives" will drive up to meet them so we can spend a week with friends there.

I used to do exactly that with my parents and sister when we lived in Toronto!

I am looking forward to the Canada Day weekend. I'm planning on visiting a few friends outside Toronto and set off some fireworks.

Yea - too bad they've changed hands over at the Boardwalk Cafe which used to be more of an upscale kind of eatery (not formal but classy casual I guess you could say)... the food quality has gone downhill... and the menu items are overpriced. It's owned by the city and they just outsource the gig to a catering company or something so that's probably why, even though it's run 'like' a restaurant. We asked for garlic to be put on my little guy's pizza and when it came the waitress said "oh the kitchen was busy so they didn't have time to put garlic on it." WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT????

But hey - it's the experience right? We still had a nice time despite it all. We love the beaches! (or is it "the beach?" - that was actually a CityTV newstopic a few months ago... believe it or not... they're trying to decide on a consistent 'name' for that neighbourhood.

And there you have it folks. There is your Toronto daily tidbit.

We're heading to London & Copenhagen this summer. London so my wife can finally meet her extended family & Copenhagen for the wedding of one of my wife's childhood friends.

Looking forward to riding the tube, the London Eye and getting my picture taken beside the Little Mermaid statue.

We also might take a ferry from Copenhagen to Scandanavia (the actual country escapes me).

What makes this trip really special is that it'll be our first one together. Hurricane season wiped out our honeymoon (was going to New Orleans, then Mexico - both got hit pretty hard). We went to Montreal, though, which was absolutely lovely.

If anyone has any other ideas on what to do in London or Copenhagen, I'd love to hear them.

Cheers and safe vacations to all who will be traveling this year.
