Question P3P policy requirement: lost in shuffle?
back in 2004 certain browser versions were capable of finding and reacting to a P3P policy .xml file to be found on a merchant's server (or one of ours, also). This was supposed to be the way to show an established privacy policy that was machine-readable.

I haven't seen much on this lately, and the IBM site from where you got the software shows it as not available. (you can find it sitting on one server, at least -- a school site from 2004)

So the question goes to those who are familiar with this: is this still important in any way to an affiliate or merchant?

When the discussion came up about third-party cookies and P3P, I checked (and redid) the P3P policies on my sites. I found this site, and was able to do everything I needed in less than 15 minutes:

interesting site and engine. just tried a test of it, found it to produce something a little simplistic but I'm sure I can edit it later after some study to be more real.

Especially with the stuff CJ is planning for our sites . . .

I never had anything like this on any of my sites. Sure would like to see it improve sales.

I just got exposed to the idea of P3P yesterday via Digital Moses and did a search here at ABW. This is newest thread at a year old.

P3P implementation is up on one of my sites now, and am passing on a few links and updates.

IBM P3P Policy Editor is free here and is what worked for me. I found another free generator but it was too clunky. The one Michael Coley had used a year ago charges now. The IBM one is too easy to have to pay anyone.

P3P Toolbox is a great reference site selling nothing.

It doesn't seem like P3P implementation is that wide spread, but if it allows any cookies at all to get through it's worth it.

It is still relevant for IE 6.X users in some cases. Our new application had a number of issues for this group until the proper policy was installed. Its worth taking the 15 minutes to do it.

I think it is something very old, but here's some links to some tools that can help you make yours:
