    Yeah, there was a whole thread about massive spam and virus pages over at WMW. Until the thread mysteriously disappeared.
    edit: ...never mind Rhea's link goes to the info.

    And all I wanted was a pizza sauce recipe. Seriously. My 12 yr old son made pizza and the sauce left a little to be desired so I told him I would help him out with the next one and find a good recipe on the internet.

    Pizza Sauce:

    Plain canned tomato sauce (try different brands; they all taste very much different. I like Redpack because it less acidic than most other brands.)

    A touch of oregano.

    Simmer for a short while to release some of the oregano flavor into the sauce.

    That's it, straight from the manual of a highly-regarded pizzeria.

    Good work Google!!

    In an attempt to filter duplicate content, you kill so many brick-and-mortar and small time oscommerce sites, just to bring this crap in.

    The duplicate content filtering is so poor, you just need to put in tens of extra space/carriage returns in between each word and you pass the filter, even though the text are completely the same. Meanwhile those that redo by changing the sentence structuring and words (or is it just sole because they are shopping cart sites) goes supplemental.

    That is me, Scott, thanks. I thought it might hit the front page of Digg (notice it is flat HTML heh) but I did not expect it to continue on... reddit, delicious, guardian.co.uk, techmeme.. all pushing it again today. Total about 30k uniques so far depending on how many have javascript turned off and aren't caught by my tracker

    I use CopySentry.com / CopyScape.com to monitor my content sites for copyright thieves. Their service uses the Google API to find the cheaters. I get weekly reports of sites / pages where my content has been scraped and is indexed. Lately, my reports are FILLED with these idiotic numeric nonsense domains where the CopySentry service, via the Google API, is detecting my content being jacked by this spammer's crawler / scraper and indexed onto subdomains EXACTLY as you've described it here and in your digg'd blog article.

    Should be ridiculously easy for G to solve this issue - their API can see it as new duplicate content being indexed and they can also easily detect that massive numbers of pages, even on sub and subsubdomains, are all scraped and yanked from all over the place - and are tied to a single domain.

    And there's not just one guy doing this with one domain...

    Google's results now exclude all of the spam listings previously mentioned. By the way, here is the sauce I used. It was a combination of a bunch of recipes.

    Combine:

    * 12 ounces of tomato paste
    * 1 cup water
    * 6 ounces dry wine
    * 3 TBSP minced garlic
    * 3 TBSP olive oil
    * 1/2 TBSP oregano & basil OR pizza spice

    Mix ingredients and simmer for 20 min or more.

    There were no leftovers!

    I'm hungry now.

    I'll read the comments at digg to take my mind off of this.

    G cleaned out eiqz2q.org...
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Aeiqz2q.org

    But the copyright service I use (CopySentry, uses G API), as I reported before, reports tons of domains doing the same thing. Crazy domain name, millions of scraped pages (that's called stealing where I come from) being indexed...

    syzsxf.info
    (http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Asyzsxf.info)

    wsocapo.info
    (http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awsocapo.info)
    online-structured-settlements.be

    online-structured-settlements.be
    (http://www.google.com/search?q=site%...settlements.be)

    on-line-meds.be
    (http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aon-line-meds.be)

    They all look like somenumberedsubdomain.stupiddomain.whatever... and it's all scraped / stolen... and all indexed...

    Must help G's claim to organize the world's information... surely inflates those counts they do of pages / sites that are indexed.

    Since their own partner, CopySentry, can use the Google API and pick these out by the thousands for just one of my sites, we can conclude 2 things:
    1) it's being done by many people (or at least at many, many domains)
    2) G can EASILY detect it
