Will Affiliate Marketing Go Mobile? Mobile Search Engine Optimization 101
    All support this threads topic.

I went to a mobile search conference in Boston last week. Its amazing how much buzz is going on about mobile search. I asked a question about mobile search trends during this event and I was told by the mobile search moderator.

Do you have a power point slide?

    .....pause

Great you can now get funding!

Which is the joke of the industry to how much VC money is being thrown into this business.

I've looked into mobile seo and its a hot topic but not getting all the traffic to justify for big brand companies expectations. However if ring tone companies are making a buck to build a site thats mobile search friendly.
Why not affiliates that understand the next big thing...

Pingo is trying to look into it and welcomes any advice. This market would be perfect for us since our virtual prepaid calling cards work on any cell phone and can save its customers up to 90% of the cost of making an international mobile cell phone call.

Any trends with affiliates making a buck on building a mobile friendly site?

    what's happening out there?

I can't picture many people actually shopping on mobile phones. Laptops, yes. Could be just me but I think most people shop online at work or at home.

Will Customers shop affiliate merchants on there mobile phones?
I'll agree with you that its a different kind of customer that will shop on there mobile phones. If you build a system to make it easy and to fit the screens of mobile phones. Will they Shop and will they buy?

I think this market has already picked up in asia and the conversion's don't have to be just a shopping cart to buy. it could have a call to action to text message or other means to lead generation or pay per call.

But the big part will be when they really will shop for products online.

It all be interesting to see this mobile market grow to the affiliate marketing level.

    debate continues........

but is anyone trying to do mobile cell phone affiliate marketing?

There are many, many people who spend a lot of time on Internet compatible PDA/phone devices and that number is going to grow quickly.
Is it the fastest growing segment? No. Will it be someday as PDA phones get better, faster and cheaper? You bet.

True, speaking for myself tho, when I shop online, it's going to be on a screen where I can actually see stuff and normally not when I'm "on the go". Usually comfortable at home on a normal sized screen. And a lot of people shop at work and will be on regular high speed computers with nice sized screens. So I can see some uses but not so sure about shopping online. Time will tell.

I think the calculations for "mobile internet" are being screwed by lumping laptops in with little PDAs and cellphones. A laptop screen is rather large and quite suitable for proper browsing--it probably wouldn't need any special design to look fine, if the site is made right (e.g., not fixed-width at some big size).

As for PDAs and cells, I can see a lot of advertising and presell potential in them.

It's not that people will buy directly from it. But, comparison-addicts would LOVE to be able to be standing in a physical store, and use their PDAs to see if they can get a better deal on the net. If they can, and the deal's good enough, they'll probably go home and order from the big computer, or use their laptop.

Also, there have been times I've been in a bricks-n-mortar and found that they were out of what I wanted, or didn't stock it. Being able to check around online at times like that would be great.

Rather than actually trying to sell the stuff on a tiny screen (although they're welcome to buy from it if they want to), I'd try to make it so it was easy for them to remember my site for when they got home to a big screen, or turned on their laptop.

I tried to go sailing this weekend. While we were docked we wanted to check the weather because the wind was pretty fierce and it was hot so storms may be blowing in. The onboard computer wasn't functioning properly so my sister in law pulled out her blackberry and we pulled up weather bub.com because this yacht club is plugged into it somehow.

Anyway we got a satelite view but you couldn't tell much by it because it was so small. We didn't sail BUT we used the blackberry to go online. Other than that the only thing so far that is done regularly on mobile is check email...

    I agree it will blossom

Uncle Scooter is 100% right. A perfect example is SMS (aka Text Messaging). SMS Chat is and has been huge in Europe for quite a few years now. It is now creeping upon the shores of the states. A good indication of the progression of Mobile applications/products is Text voting on American Idol or SMS Horoscopes that you see on commercials. The more mainstream it becomes, in addition to greater and better technology, the more integrated it will become in our society.
