Ummm, that does kind of sound like Leaders philosphy in a way but Leader does WORK I mean do more than him. Plus I'm not sure if Leader lives with his/her parents. Hmmmm, come to think about it that guy reminds me of me!!! Cool!

    Freesurf,

quote:
Who is Leader

Amongst many other things, Leader is a friend who is VERY successful in this business yet offers real and helpful information for us all to better our sites and definitely not someone deserving of such a gratuitous and undeserving flame!

    Disappointed!

    Haiko

Leader is a woman and she is about as good as it gets in this business.

Try checking out some of her posts.

For a long time I juse assumed Leader was a man. That tells me a lot about myself.

One great thing about the internet, it doesn't matter whether you are male or female, black or white, or what your religion is. The person with the talent and determinination will always be "Leader".

Leader is a CIA operative. If she told you who she was she'd have to spank you.

Leader is like Popeye, stats are her spinach and she is what she is.

"but Leader does WORK. I mean do more than him~GameBoy"

    But not employment...

Some people are happy and (AMAZINGLY) proud to do someone else's work--they're the ones that hold jobs! They don't mind the dehumanized state...doing someone else's bidding, worrying about petty bull sheet like whether they're a minute late or not, how fast they assemble stuff, the boss' "mood", etc.

I am not one of them. I do not WANT to be one of them.

BTW, I can relate to the Holiday Inn Guy. If I couldn't, I'd still be doing some WORTHLESS job and WASTING my life like so many others! And for what?!?

Billions of people waste their short years inside of other people's places, never even seeing what's outside the place of employment, let alone experiencing life [beyond a couple of short weeks of vacation a year]--only to pass on after a short "retirement", after they have used up the best years of their life on someone ELSE'S projects--years that should have been ALL THEIRS!

Even worse is the fact that a lot of people think that wasting their lives in such a way is OKAY!

But there is one class of people who think that being employed is better left to others:

    THEY ARE CALLED EMPLOYERS.

I think it's absolutely ludicrous to assert that working for someone else is equivalent to being satisfied with dehumanization... or a wasted life, or a miserable life.

    It's insulting and it's ignorant.

Cedric, I've had enough jobs to know that my statement certainly isn't ignorant.

Sorry that you are offended, but I stand by my assertions 100%--to kowtow to a Boss most certainly IS dehumanizing, and definitely 100% miserable, AND a waste, IMO!

Leader, I don't question that your personal experience was horrid, but not everyone who is employed allows employment to be either dehumanising or miserable.

You're not suited to working for someone else -- excellent, you've made the right choice for *you*.

But to suggest that all employment is as horrible as yours was, is yes, ignorant.

It really all depends on the individual. Being self-employed entails a certain amount of risk that not everyone is comfortable with. I think it's a mindset. Some people just aren't comfortable with the entreprenurial frame of mind. And if I don't change my web strategy soon, my father will never stop harping on why I quit executive recruiting, where I made a killing working PART time instead of NOTHING working FULL time! But then, I think he forgot he told me not to get into recruiting either....

If going out on a limb isn't comfortable for someone, and a person isn't comfortable testing their "safety" boundaries, then hey, hug the trunk. Which sounds denigrating, but I don't mean it to be so. It's an individual choice.

    Cedric...

It is NOT ignorant. It's a matter of differing opinion, that's all.

You can stand it, good for you...but my not agreeing that there's some great job out there is not a matter of ignorance! A fish isn't ignorant for not agreeing that there's good land...to the fish ALL land is horrid and deadly, and that's that!

jujubee6, you've got it... (and if you hang around ABW you can pick up some good web strategies, too )

quote:
A fish isn't ignorant for not agreeing that there's good land...to the fish ALL land is horrid and deadly, and that's that!

Absolutely! The only ignorance is in assuming that fish are the only happy creatures in the world and that lions are oppressed and demeaned because they are forced to live on the bad old land.
quote:
You can stand it, good for you...

lol... you did have some lousy jobs, didn't you?

I can go either way, I see benefits to both worlds. Call me amphibious. I haven't had a boss since mid-2001, but I may choose to have a boss tomorrow... I go where my interests lead me.

The joy and/or misery in my life has RARELY been the result of how I earn an income.

Oh, okay [grumble mumble], I suppose... But the lack of smiling faces in most places of employment indicate that there's a LOT of fish flopping around on the land...

"lol... you did have some lousy jobs, didn't you?"

    YES!

On the other hand, you seem to have found the One Good Job at some point.

"The joy and/or misery in my life has RARELY been the result of how I earn an income."

Just the opposite here. Things unrelated to income are pretty much steady-state with me...

In my "work lifetime" (twenty-some years), I've spent about as much time self-employed as employed-by-others.

Truth be told, I'd rather win the lottery.

"Truth be told, I'd rather win the lottery~Cedric"

Ah-ha! I'm not so ignorant after all!!! There IS INDEED something you'd rather do with your life than a job--something you think is more worthwhile than spending your time in some place of employment!!

I didn't say "you'd be happy as an entrepreneur"--I just said that employment SUCKS! That's not the same!

I think a lot of people would love to win the Lottery. It wouldn't make me sad, either! I suppose with a $375 million dollar multi-state jackpot win I might consider playing regular video games instead of this...

I don't work for any reason other than the income, Leader. Self-employed or otherly-employed, it's all the same.

Well I can't shake the feeling that there might be something wrong with someone who wants to work for someone else.

Or maybe theres something wrong with someone who *can't* work for someone else.

I have worked for other people but they tend to get slapped more often than chance would predict :/ Until that moment I'm an excellent problem solver / graphic designer / someone who can do a cashflow / lighting engineer / counseller etc.

I'm too damn goodlooking. Thats what it must be

So [sniff] I have to [snivel] scrape a living [sob] at affiliate marketting [waaaaail].

And its not my Irish Temper at all.
