    Cooking.com = Leakage Gallore
They send an email today to promote their recipe section

    I check the link...

    http://www.cooking.com/recipes/rehome.asp

Except for their logo and a passing mention of recipes, the rest of the page is Adsense and links to "Partner Sites"

    Wow, leaks galore.

No wonder I never make any money with them.

    Thanks for the heads up.

It's a new trend, merchants trying to monetize affiliate traffic at the expense of their affiliates.
We need to send them a strong message and the network should oblige them to pay for our traffic if they divert it for their own profit.
    A few others:
    This one http://www.golfideas.com/ on SAS
Look at their balls links, http://www.golfideas.com/page_info.php/aID/15
All leading to LinkShare thru the merchant affiliate links.

    http://www.stacksandstacks.com/ with CJ
Their new Framed Art section is a white site from artselect.com with artselect shopping cart, a leakage for affiliates.

There's also the Affiliate Mall at Dentalplans.com, http://www.dentalplans.com/savingsportal/
    and many more.

A ShareaSale merchant with Linkshare links

In my heart, I think the time is approaching when affiliates are going to say Enough is Enough!!

Can't wait to read THAT post when it happens

Billy Kay - A ShareaSale merchant with Linkshare links
We saw one before with (many, many) CJ links.

I used to promote cooking.com quite heavily before but if you look closely at their product line you'll see them expanding with merchants having their own affiliate programs... Pfaltzgraff, iGourmet, Delighful Deliveries, Starbucks, A.K.A. Gourmet...

I'm quite dissapointed to see them going this way, and worse with adsense on their site. A merchant turning affiliate is not a good sign.

We don't need to send them our traffic for a loosy 5%, if we can make 10 to 20% working directly with their suppliers.

I had a merchant ask me the other day to help them add datafeed content to their site. I had to advise them not to and explained the repercussions if they decide to add an affiliate program later. Not to mention the damage they'll do to their existing customers by sending them away through affiliate links. Fortunately they listened and opted not to take this path.

    Hmmm...

the main link on my cooking.com page - the one with their logo - can go to cooking.com

but the part of my page where it says things like "Buy Pfaltzgraff stuff at Cooking.com" - I can just change those links to go directly to those affiliate programs since I'm already an affiliate of them

    hmmmmmmmmmm

It amazes me at how mixed a merchant's initiatives can be. You'd have to think that they have two completely segregated teams trying to make the parent co $$$. Even more strange is that the networks allow this, considering they do not make money from the leakage (unless of course, the links are theirs too!!!!).

Regardless of the network or merchant, you should always be astute when going through a potential offer. Some campaigns may work out great for you, without you realizing that a good % of your traffic goes unmonetized due to phone numbers, aff links, etc.

Are you saying if someone goes to cooking.com from an affilate link and decides to buy some Blue cheese from cooking.com that ships from igourmet that we would not get the affiliate commission?

What I see is that they are trying to monetize their content vs the store. I guess the price for articles, research and writers can be quite an expense.

BUT... that does not give Cooking.com the right to send our traffic away and not pay.

Cooking.com, your going to be cooking POOP@cooking.com

    Bad little cook... BAD....

As a side note, if you have the google spellcheck running from their toolbar, they say that cooking.com is not a word, but they do offer cockscomb as the prefered spelling.

DEF coxcomb: a conceited dandy who is overly impressed by his own accomplishments

    (Christ, that could be me!)

    OR

a cap worn by court jesters; adorned with a strip of red ... well let's see

Ah ha! Yes cooking.com is a COCKSCOMB! See that little strip of red?

Always trust google to come through
