As per http://code.google.com/apis/checkout...n_api_overview , merchants who use Google APIs to handle new order notifications (Level 2 integration) can specify a notification callback URL. I'm assuming you can call the affiliate tracking code through this callback URL. (Please note that this is just my assumption. I haven't tested the service).

Oops, missed this thread, started another one about the coupons.

I'm checking out the demo now. I'm wondering if I send a customer to a merchant, they're at checkout and see Google checkout and use a Google coupon instead of the one I gave the customer. Who gets the commission.

Trust, that's my concern too, or if it doesn't affect my commission, can I offer those coupons to my users too??
it doesn't look like the merchant links have affiliate links in there, but I know there's always some other way that they're being tracked.

Also with the PPC. Merchants are going to have little cart symbols in their sponsored ads. It would be to Goolge's benefit to have those merchants coming up first.

I remember a keynote at Aff Summit in Vegas over a year ago... by a certain someone... who warned then to watch out for Google to become the largest Affiliate parasite in the world before long. Looks like it's starting. Merchant's are going to have to either hide the google checkout from aff traffic or make a choice: Do they want to use Google checkout or a productive Affiliate base..

I already checked a major merchant and there was the Google checkout button right on the first page of the cart...

Golfballs.com are already pushing the Google coupons, so affliates can use them.

Use Promo code: GOOGLEGOLF during checkout to receive $10 off your order over $20. One coupon per buyer please. Expires no sooner than July 15, 2006. Coupon only valid for orders placed via Google Checkout.

So still thinking about it. If we can use the coupons and they're in it for the checkout and getting fees for that, that's one thing. If they want to become a Super Affiliate, that's another. Will have to watch this.

An Affiliate in our network just performed a test order (with a large merchant not in AvantLink) and the Affiliate ID was passed through the Google checkout.

But that's one test...from one merchant.

    I guess we shall see...

I wonder what Google's take is on each transaction? Or if they're on a fee-based system as Trust mentions above. Yeah we'll be watching.

    Some info on that here:
    http://news.com.com/Google+Checkout+...?tag=nefd.lede

"Merchants using the system will be charged a processing fee of 20 cents per transaction, plus 2 percent of the relevant purchase price. Customers who pay for search-related keyword ads through Google AdWords will be able to process, free of charge, transactions that add up to 10 times the dollar amount of their AdWords spending, Kamangar said. Beyond that, they pay the 20 cents plus 2.2 percent. Kamangar said the regular transaction fees are less than those charged by credit card companies, which can be about 1 percent higher."

Just a heads up from Backcountry.com and Google Checkout.

Backcountry.com is offering Google Checkout on our sites. We have been working on this integration for about the last six months. However, I have made a live test purchase through our site with a brand new account and we are tracking affiliate traffic/conversions. We're able to do this because we batch our purchases back to CJ nightly.

From what I understand it was quite the hack for our engineering team to be able to integrate affiliate tracking into the system. At this point, the only part of our marketing campaign tracking that is working is the affiliate tracking. So it might be a good idea to spot check some of the merchants that you're promoting and see if they are tracking affiliate sales through the Google Checkout process.

I'm trying to find out from CJ what their angle is on this. As of yet I haven't heard anything.

    Thanks for the info Walt,

So basically if a merchant using Google checkout is not batching sales there are issues in regard to Affiliate tracking. Pixel tracking isn't going to work...as the confirmation page for the sale through Google checkout is not on the merchant site...

What does it mean if a seller tracks affiliate advertising?

"Google Checkout allows stores to track affiliate advertising by adding a web beacon to the Google Checkout order confirmation page. A web beacon is an electronic image (1x1 .gif) within a web page that helps a seller analyze customer traffic, and track transactions.

Google does not allow sellers to collect personal information through web beacons. We'll will show a message along the bottom of your order confirmation page when a seller is tracking affiliate advertising, but if you'd like to opt-out of affiliate tracking, please visit the provider's site listed on the confirmation page for more information, or clear your cookies from the provider's domain."

    Quick update.

If you made a Google Checkout test purchase through Backcountry.com sites yesterday, your order most likely didn't make it into the CJ batch last night. We were waiting for Google to approve the transactions through their fraud department and the CJ batch ran before we had most of those orders cleared. Those Google Checkout orders should be included in the next batch tonight.
