I decided on Germany, they have been playing well, entertainingly and without cheating - also as the hosts it's almost traditional for them to win!

I will support France: They started playing bad, as all the other big names like England and Brasil; they hardly got out of the group but they upped their game from there.

I don't enjoy watching Germany play but they certainly home field advantage and a decent game.

Italy's performance has been roller coaster and I'm looking forward to see how they'll play against the Germans.

Portugal would be the biggest surprise to me if they win the cup.

Germany, since like I mentioned in the other thread. Was born there and will get lots of free stuff And I used to play in a German/American Soccer League over there when I was little. Germans know how to play some Soccer. I mean Fussball

    Now here's an upset - Germany 0 - Italy 2.

2 late goals at 119 and 121 minutes in extra time. I can hear fireworks going off in the distance, there are quite a few Italians live around here.

Not really an upset, they had equal shots as far as ability goes and Germans only had the home field advantage. Italy outplayed Germany, especially in the extra time, and they deserved to win. They'd most likely lose it if it went to PKs.

Now, let's see how Zidane v. Figo will turn out.

On the one hand I think Yeah why not Italy and live with the fact that the Ozzies lost to World Cup champions but on the other I think hey if that's the case, we could've been there if not for that fateful penalty at the dying seconds...I would love to see Portugal take it but am not sure they have what it takes to beat France.

Australia certainly got screwed over in this cup. What's really unfair is that if it was a big name team that this faulty penalty happened to, like Brazil, France or England, the worldwide reaction would be much different, as in Ozzies' case, it almost went unnoticed.

    But, that's life

Too right it is! Germany was a surprise exit though with the home crowd and everything - I really expected them to get to the finals. Poor Ronaldinho had his 7m statue torched by fans when Brazil lost to France - the price of high expectations and failure to live up to them I guess. The only certainty I feel about this World Cup is that FIFA has to lift the standards of their referees - I know it's always like 'O blame the referee for everything' but some of the decisions right through the games have just been astounding and I'm not just saying the Italy-Australia match. I just hope the finals is ref'd by someone worthy to the task - I want to watch something where the match is won on good football being played and not by some ref's poor judgement call.

I have to go for Italy. Ottawa has a pretty big Italian community so it has been one big party... especially since they beat Germany yesterday.

I'm actually torn between France and Portugal. I've been rooting for these two teams from the start, and they've both been playing great. I don't really mind who goes to the finals out of those two, just as long as they win!

Both are going to fight. France has no other choice. Portugal has a goal (second Scolari's trophy of this kind)... Can't wait!!

Bad game, good win by France. If they play like against Italy, the cup will go to Rome, but of course, they won't play like this and it's going to be a beautiful final!

Side note: It was idiotic for English fans to boo Ronaldo everytime he got the ball. He did not cause Rooney to get the red card; referee didn't show the card because Ronaldo suggested it. If anybody should be booed, it's Rooney, for stupidly leaving his team mates one man down.

Feel sorry for Ronaldo's little boys...

I watched that part a few times and grimaced - it's the one place where cleats should never tread..

It wasn't Ronaldo Rooney stepped over. It was Ricardo Carvalho.

Agreed. Rooney's hot temper is a constant problem. Full 11 v 11, I think England breaks the deadlock b4 penalties. If I had to choose, I suppose i would like France win the Cup, simply because of how splendid a player Zidane is. It's just effortless for him.
