Thumbs down Tower Records feed still giving me problems
    Hello everybody!

Thanks for all the help that is posted on here. It has made me feel very comfortable working with webmerge.

Is anyone else using the Tower Record feed? If so, do you get occasional errors when using the feed with WM? I'd like to know what settings you are using when creating the pages with the TR feed. Please help.

I think my motherboard is just about fried, but would like some feed back if other s have had problems with this feed. Thanks in advance.

it might help us if you could give us some more details on the errors you are experiencing. Also make sure to tell whether you have done any editing to the feed.

I think you did it, Jack.

I ftp'd Tower Records, and forgot to "re-save" it in tab delimited format for processing thru WM. Let me give it a try. Oh, I sometimes experience system crashes due to the memory size, does anyone else experience this too?

I'll let you know how I make out with the file resave.... thanks again...

I usually start by opening mine in csved. I usually don't have any problems with the size unless it's maybe ove 300k products. If so then I use a file splitter to split it into smaller pieces.

Which one? Would it be helpful if I build a file-splitting feature in WM?

How do you tell this program where to split? Just by number of lines, or by other criteria?

    Hi Richard:

In this case I can' give out the name of the program as it was a favor done to me, but it sorts usually by however many parts you want t to split the feed int. So say if I have a bg feed like Target I can se it to split it into 10 pieces and it gives 10 iles to work with instead of one. Yes this would be a very useful feure in Wm , especially with some of these very large feeds.

Can you give me a little direction, please? I have my tower records .txt file ready to go. I am sure it's not my template that I made because I have used with at least ten to twelve other similar .txt files from the same network and they all come out 100 percent.

I get the feed's output in text instead of the normal .html page look and feel all the other feeds get.

Say the word, and I can send you the feed file for you to look at if you have the time. I really don't understand what I did wrong here. I use to have the TR feed working before my HD crash earlier this year and now I can't get it to work at all. I still think there is something wrong with my motherboard, but there are other little signs of this that I haven't mentioned here.

The file splitter would be helpful and any guidance and assistance rendered would be more than appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi:

First do a search on google for file splitter.

Also what happens when you do just a test run? It may be that you have some bad data in the feed somewhere. This is why you have to edit the feeeds before running them.

Ok, I'll do the google for file splitter.

Do you what I might look for as far as errors in the feed?

    Thanks.

    Hi:

Look for things like fields being moved over, quotes / etc. These can be very problematic for Webmerge. In fact I usually replace " with an empty

Talking Just wanted to take this opportunity...
    To say, "Thank you", Jack.

I really do appreciate all of your help.

I looked over my templates and there seems to be a conflict with using [wm-field: buyurl] and not [wm-field: producturl].. so far, my revisions have worked and I have a store of Tower records up and running. I still have my product zip file to make, so keep your fingers crossed.

    Hey, Richard.
Got a quick question for ya.
Did the original program to webmerge use to be called "Best web"?? or was that the original site before abestweb.com????
I have an oldie but maybe a goodie that I bought a long time ago and does the early version of webmerge, thought it might be one of yours.
    Thanks.

This forum has been called "A Best Web" for some time (thanks to Haiko here for setting up our WebMerge section!), and WebMerge has always had the same name. If there's a software package called Best Web it isn't one of mine.

No need to Google for a file splitter - several people use hjsplit.
