WS_FTP is great. However it's free only in very limited circumstances.
"Ipswitch is pleased to make WS_FTP Limited Edition available to you free of charge if you are:

a U.S. federal, state, or local government employee
(government contractors must use WS_FTP Pro)
a student, faculty member, or staff member of an educational institution
a non-business home user. (recreational use only)[/list]

The WS_FTP LE End User License Agreement defines who may use WS_FTP Limited Edition. Corporate users or those who do not qualify for free use of WS_FTP LE must use WS_FTP Professional."

I've used WS_FTP for years too. I got the free version to try it out, and I liked it so I paid the registration fee. When they gave me the "better" version I didn't like is nearly as much as the free version, so I never used it. Still using the free one from years ago.

I LOVE the paid version (and wouldn't feel right using the free one since I use it for a profit site... of course, if I paid for the pro version and hated it, then I wouldn't feel guilty using the free one, lol...) -- my favorite is the ability to delete entire directories without deleting everything under them first.

    leech

It's free, it resumes downloads and generally works great.

    Download Leech from Download.com

As I recall, one of the other advantages of WS_FTP registered version is the ability to open two instances of it and directly FTP from one to the other. It is definitely something I've been thinking about purchasing.
