Hmm, no...it shouldn't swell up (unless you left the stinger in). Yeah, I think your foot is likely to fall off...better luck next time. (kidding of course).

If it were me, and it was 48 hours later when the swelling started, I would take myself to the hospital. I've been stung on the foot a couple of times, but it never started swelling. Better safe than sorry, don't you think?

    Hope you get better soon.

    Jonothan,

Here is a good site with information: http://www.umm.edu/non_trauma/bee.htm I noticed they say the stinger stays in your skin, so I'm thinking perhaps you are having a delayed venom exposure and maybe never got any venom the first day.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the replies.

Yea I agree Money..depending on how much more it swells...I may head over to my doc soon just to be on the safe side...I kinda need that foot!

Thanks for the site Ron...I think that is probably what is happening as far as the stinger still being in my foot. It was difficult at the time to see if the stinger was still in, so I just gave my foot a quick brush off and hoped it was out. But I guess it wasn't. Darn bees!

I was the second of three guys to get stung in the park we were at...you'd think after the first guy got stung we'd get off the grass or at least put some shoes on...but yea...sometimes the brain works in strange ways.

You might be mildly allergic. Usually people that are extreemly allergic have a reaction very quickly. If it gets worse, call the doc or go to the emergancy room.

    Jonathan, Just saw this thread..

If it helps.. the same thing happened to me before. And yes it was because I hadn't gotten the stinger out at first (the doc said it wasn't in there when i saw him but prob was until it swelled and pushed out on its own). I was concerned at first b/c my Mother is allergic, but the doc told me that if you were having an allergic reaction it would happen right away and not the next day or later.. i was put on antibiotics to head off infection, so you may want to go have it checked out for infection..

    I hope you're feelin better..

Gary thanks for the reply. That makes me feel a lot better. I will probably head over to the docs on my lunch break. Nothin better then a Gyro sandwich and antibiotics for lunch!

Having been stung numerous times in my life, your reaction sounds common. Many people swell up big time for a couple hours and then it subsides. The protein in the sting area can be broken down by running hot water over the area. Once the protein is broken down, the pain is relieved substantially.

We had one of our kids little friends over one day swimming in the pool, (many years ago) and as he bounced up and down on the diving board, he rattled some hornets that had nested under the board without our knowledge. He got stung on the upper lip and within ten minutes his upper lip looked like a baseball was implanted under the skin.

We rushed him to the local emergency room, but by the time we got there it had gone down to the size of a pea. (thankfully).

Hope you made out ok with your sting and hey - welcome to the club!! Hard to think that something that's so good on a nice piece of wheat toast with butter in the morning can cause so much pain!!

Flux, don't worry about it, you will probably die any moment so there is nothing to get upset over.
