Question How often do you get indexed?
My homepage made it to google a while back, but it only has two pages indexed. I have added a bunch of new pages. How long does it take to get indexed with those pages? Thanks.

All depends... Google is at my sites all the time, but it doesn't mean the pages get indexed right away. If they are worthwhile, google is likely to include them somewhere, someday.

This really comes down to your PageRank and incoming links. The more powerful the sites are that link to you, the more Google will index. If you can get mentioned in a couple dozen blogs that'll help a great deal as well. It's just tricky coming up with a site that's press-worthy enough to break into the blogosphere.

And you can also just do some indirect link exchanges. Get some links in.

The recipriocal link kind of thing? Or do you mean something else by "indirect link exchanges"? What does indirect mean?

It means you link to my widget site, and I'll link from a page of mine (someplace) to your gadget site.

Thanks. So it doesn't have to be the same kind of merchandise or service for sale? What do you do just go to a site and ask?

It really helps to get links from related sites. The search engines are getting better at identifying mis-matched link exchanges and devalue those quite a bit. It won't hurt you to have a mis-matched link exchange, but it won't help you as much as a link from a related site.

Also as far as link exchanging, most of the time I just see people getting links to their home page/index but it's also good to get links to other pages and relevant links. Of course natural links are the best. Natural links being people just linking to you on their own because they feel you have something of value worth linking too.

Last night a new site we put up finally got some of the backlinks indexed. I was pleased.

Today, though, they are all gone now. I am totally confused.

folks claim there is no such thing as a "sandbox" where sites effectively are in limbo soon after being discovered. I bet if you wait several months they'll show up.

I think the "sandbox" is really just a lack of consistent incoming links. A lot of affiliates use their existing sites to link to their new sites. These new sites get some ranking at first because of the links from the existing sites. But when the new sites don't continue to earn equally valuable links over a period of time the rankings faulter. I think the "sandbox" is just the search engine demanding more links.

... or the consistency of those inbound links (as per Snib's post above).

I have one site that has a lot of unique content but never got indexed (on google). Another one, which is not so unique, got indexed, but only a few pages. maybe the first one wasn't search engine friendly (it was/is dotnetnuke driven). I really like the first site, but it just never got picked up.
