Question Whats the best way to redirect a link?
Right now I'm using direct affiliate links on my site banners and text links,

I think some visitors might not like it and might not click on a link, if they see
affiliate network name in the links.

Do a search for a php redirect on one of the SEs.

That will work if you are doing your links with copy and paste.

If you have a big site and are using webmerge or something to build pages that will be too time consuming.

It would be best to learn to use php to build your sites - or learn to use a CMS. There are many free ones out on the internet.

I don't think customers have a problem with affiliate links.

What you really want to do is hide the links from SEs with the redirect.

My website host does not support PHP . I can only work with JSP, Java, Apache, Tomcat. All pages and everything have been build using JSP and Java and HTML

I know there's a way to do redirects with Apache, but I dont know how to do it, it sounds too complicated because it uses some regular expressions, and I'm using a shared JVM so , I dont have access to the Apache server. Maybe I can do it with .htaccess, but dont know how to do it through that or what the disadvantages are of using .htaccess to do redirects.

If theres anyone here that know's jsp , which method is better jsp:forward or response.sendRedirect ?

I was thinking of linking the original offer to a , page that peforms a jsp:forward or a response.sendRedirect , to the target affiliate site.

Another concern is, if I do a redirect , will my affiliate id and other ids pass through?

I dont want to lose credit for referring, just because i'm doing a URL redirect.

    Yes - it should.

It's really easy to check it out yourself.

Clear the cookies from your computer.

Click on one of your re-direct links.

See if cookies were set in your computer.

If it set a network and/or merchant cookies on your computer - it worked and you are due a credit for the sale.

You can also go here http://mydatafeedscripts.com/ and download entire website scripts for merchants with the affiliate link redirect already in the script.

Some are free and some are not. The ones that are not free are cheap though.

You really need to have php on your server. Are you sure you don't have it. Most host offer it. If yours doesn't you need to change host.

This would be a good way to get started until you learn how to use php.

I'm sure there's no PHP support, I even emailed them and asked them about it and they said no.

I've invested a lot of time in learning java, jsp - php is totally new to me. but I think everything that can be accomplished in one programming language can be accomplished in another in the case of PHP and JSP/Java.

I think for now, I will create 1 redirect page for 1 URL, boy that means i'll be creating a lot of pages just for redirects.

If you ever do get php support (on that server or another), let me know, and I'll help you set up a really nice redirect software. It's actually a click tracking software, but the idea is the same.

Thank you, but i think i'll stick with JSP and Java for now, it's as good as PHP.

If there is a smart/ efficient/ time-saving way (i think there is) , to do URL redirects in JSP/Java , I would like to implement it.
