Are there any conferences coming up where people working this affiliate business can do a little people networking.

I'm talking about one for the working poor that don't have a big corporate conventions budget. Maybe one in Las Vegas or Atlanta or somewhere easy to get to?

Sorry folks, I've been to Calgary and Edmonton in the winter and I ain't going back.

Seriously, I think Wiznot's question is well taken. I attended a conference of webmasters recently, several of whom were into the affiliate game. The exchange of information was quite vaulable.

I think this merits active consideration.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that was what abestweb was supposed to be for.

I've spoken with others about this same issue and it was agreed that we are so afraid to network with each other online that we miss out on tons of opportunities and call everyone who tries to do so either a spammer or a scammer.

Let's use abestweb as our place to network and let's use the knowledge and resources we have here to make everyone better off.

Let's quit ignoring the plees by merchants and special offers for abestweb members and instead use them and promote them. Hell let's all get rich by grouping together.

IMO abw has fallen victim to becoming overly family and not enough business. I'm as guilty of the above as any of you and have no problems with the abw family idea but we need to keep some focus on business and use this great place as a resource to market and exchange ideas while at the same time keeping a close eye out for each other by stopping the scammers in their tracks.

I agree Heyder, but it can't hurt to also network offline. The more networking the better, IMO. So ... anyone in the Los Angeles area interested in meeting for dinner one night and discussing affiliate marketing? PM me if you do.

I totaly agree with you there Heyder, I personaly think there is enough business out there to accomodate us all (asuming Pranav stops copying pages word for word)

I have no qualms about telling people what I do if they ask (but then again I'm not making much)

Ok, so what should we do first?

Link Exchanges? Content Contributions? Newsletter Ad Swaps?

For example : I would love to do link exchanges with webmaster related sites and host website promotion, design and newsletter articles on my site (total complete credit and byline included).

    What does everyone else need?

    Absolutely. Taco Bell for everyone!!!

I don't have a newsletter so I couldn't participate in an ad swap, but I'm definitely interested in getting more traffic. Maybe we could have a place where people who do have newsletters could list the newsletter, the newsletter's target audience, and the approximate circulation? That way, if someone is looking to buy advertising they could maybe buy it from an ABW'er.

This benefits the person with the newsletter b/c they get paid for the ad and it benefits the person who buys b/c they get targeted advertising. Also, if names were left off the newsletter list so its "blind", then no one would know whose newsletter goes with who which may negate some of the copying concerns. I don't know - just thinking out loud here.

What do you think? Any thoughts on this?

Forums like this are great places to exchange information but I believe being able to put some faces with "names" and to be able to share experiences that are too lengthy and detailed and diverse to do in postings can act as an accelerant.

And some information exchanges are too unique to be of much use to the whole forum membership but can be of great value to a limited group in a person-to-person exchange.

Besides that, to many of us, the people on these forums are our workgroup. Can you go talk to your neighbors about online affiliate marketing? Can you even talk to your 'significant other' about affiliate marketing without getting that blank stare? Affiliate marketing ... what's that? they say. What is a Filliate?

    Whiznot,

I didn't mean you shouldn't do real person to person networking. I'm all for that too.
