    Grats to my wife!
My wife just signed a contract with one of the best school districts in our area, to have a self contained special education classroom for 3rd and 4th graders.

Not only does that mean she's finally gainfully employed , but she's doing EXACTLY what she wants to be doing, and it means that I'm much much closer to taking a serious Full Time run at both sides of aff marketing.

    So grats to my wife!

    And thanks, for that matter.

Congrats to her! My oldest sister is involved in the same thing and it is her passion. It takes a truly wonderful and unique person to be as committed and involved in something like this to the degree that your wife has chosen to be. Thats awesome!

Best of luck to you both.

    Thumbs up
    That's great Noth!

I know from personal experience with our little guy who has special needs that trying to get those kinds of services is very tough for parents... I'm sure all the parents who require this kind of help for their kids in her district will be thrilled to have a new resource in helping to identify their children's unique strengths and to help build on them.

Congrats to your wife, and to you for being able to take a full time run at what YOU love to do, too.

    Best regards,

    Thanks all.

Liz: The district she is in is wonderful in recognizing the need for people like my wife, and almost every grade level through high school has a self contained option.

And she couldn't be more happy. And I couldn't be more proud of her

We should move to YOUR district then!

Getting special needs help here is insane unless you go the private route which is incredibly expensive... everything public is wait-list, wait-list, wait-list, and they have a ceiling on how much 'help' the kids can have because of funding issues. For example, speech therapy is administered in 12-wk blocks where the children only get about half hour to an hour a week with a speech pathologist at school. After 12 wks, they are forced onto a speech therapy hiatus no matter how badly they need to continue - because they have to give other kids a turn to get the help they need - there simply isn't enough to fill the demand on a consistent basis. And, they can't have both speech and occupational therapy for example at the same time. It's one or the other regardless of the individual circumstance. When it comes to self contained classes - the board of ed insists that in most cases, that special needs children are integrated for at least 25% of their curriculum - irrespective of if they can keep up. So, your district is incredibly lucky to have so many self-contained classes available to kids who need that type of school environment.

We have a fairly good regular public education system here in Ontario, Canada but .... when it comes to special needs they leave a lot to be desired unfortunately.

Again, best wishes to your wife on her new position.
