Question What exactly is brand abuse?
I have no clue what brand abuse means, and I hope i'm not doing any kind of brand abuse "unknowingly" on my affiliate site

These people http://www.netenforcers.com/services/bp_abuse.cfm claim to have shut down sites that abused brands so to say.

    according to this post: http://affiliate-blogs.5staraffiliat...filiates-dcma/

anyone has any idea about what brand abuse is, and what we affiliates should know about brand abuse?

    i have an idea
One instance of brand abuse that comes to mind is when spammers use trademarked drug names like valium and viagra over and over again. people hate spam and when they see these names over and over in it, it hurts these brands.

    That makes sense.

If you put names like Giorgio Armani, D&G or Gucci on a Coupon site for a valid merchant who has a "sale" or a "discount" on the products from these brand names, will the owners of these brands come after the coupon website and shut it down?

probably not, but some lawyers playing cop would try if they could, just to look good to a potential paying customer.

and what dork in a company would believe their line? unfortunately, a couple have.

This actually happens quite a bit. Some law firms specialize in doing C&D letters regardless of whether a case would have any merit, just so they can generate billables for deep-pocketed clients.

How much money can the lawyers get out of a coupon site?

I havent made a single cent on my coupon site, what will they get by suing me?

Do the lawyers atleast send a notice to make corrections to what they think is brand abuse, before they sue a coupon site?

I agree w/ previous poster. They can initially get money from their client. Working at "protecting their brand". Then I think a competant lawyer would do an assets check before suing.

The C&D or cease and desist I beleive. I dont know if they HAVE to send it tho.

I am neither a lawyer, nor play one on tv!
