    Question So, does afsrc=1 work?
    I got dumped by a Performics merchant. They were partnered with Ebates, SchoolPop, UPromise, Shopathome Select, and Top Rebates and I sent them an email stating this was part of the reason I may not have shown any sales.

    They replied:

    Hi AFFILIATE,
    We inquired to Performics about this issue. Here is what we have for a response.
    Affiliates like the one below claim that their commissions are stolen
    if:
    - User comes to affiliate site
    - User clicks off of affiliate site to merchant site
    - (user is an ebates/upromise etc. member)
    - reminder application pops and user clicks through reminder application
    - Upromise gets sale, original affiliate site does not

    However there is an affiliate link parameter that affiliates can use
    that was made very common knowledge years ago-the parameter is afsrc=1
    (I think) this string, when appended to the link ensures the integrity
    of the original affiliates traffic.

    You can use this to stop any cannibilization.
    Best Regards

    True and not true, yes it does prevent the Top Moxie from popping on that click, but if the shopper browses and bookmarks and returns at a later time after comparison shopping, then the software will overwrite your cookie.

    Plain out thieft.

    I agree! If this is something the network is supposedly suggesting, then the tracking should be set up to prevent this in the first place.

    I'm doing URL redirects

    does it matter if I put the afsrc parameter , in the "click URL" , or inside the redirected URL ?

    I'm thinking, if its added to the redirected URL it will work, I think I can easily test this out.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Also , is this afsrc thingy only for Performics, or is it for CJ as well, what about SAS?
    I put it in all links except SAS (Brian keeps a clean ship) and it's in the click link not in the url with the network's tracking code in it.
    I added afsrc=1 to the links on my sites earlier this year. There wasn't a noticeable difference to me.
    Are you just adding it to the "Click URL"
    If you are doing redirects then this will have no effect.
    If you add it to the "Click URL" , then your redirect code needs to read this parameter via HTTP GET and then, add it again to the redirect URL
    for example: http://www.some_click_url.com/afsrc=1 , the user clicks on this then goes to the redirect page
    The redirect page gets the afsrc parameter, but it will not pass it through to the affiliate network URL , unless you read afsrc in the redirect page and then add it again to the affiliate network url
    like , someVariable = response.getParameter("afsrc")
    http://www.affiliatenetworkurl.com/afsrc=(someVariable)
    OR instead of adding it to the click url , if you add it directly to the affiliate network url then, it will surely pass through
    Here's a little history on afsrc=1
    Yes I do it according to how Jangro describes - my click url and redirect url are one and the same...it's a straight php link with afsrc=1 attached (unlike your example which requires another redirect using htaccess or css). It goes to straight to a php script which then pulls the link from a SQL table.
    Like Michael I can't say definitively that it's made a huge difference in commission payouts.
    cheers
