I have an HTML page that has one amazon.pl call:
<!--#include virtual="/cgi-bin/amazon.pl?ssi&type=search&mode=books&keyword=boxing+jack+dempsey&format=c3&sort=+salesrank"-->When I display this page, I see that 3 instances of amazon.pl are running. Why would this be necessary? I'm wondering if I have to tweak some settings. Thanks.

That SSI statement will cause one instance of ae.pl to run.
Is AE running on a live website open to the public? Perhaps other users are simultaneously accessing the website. Also, if you repeatedly and rapidly press refresh in your web browser, your web server will handle all of the requests and start an instance of ae.pl for each request and you will see multple instances running until all requests have been processed by the server & AE.
