a data feed is automatic feed of products from merchants.
i use data feeds from www.goldencan.com

you can see some examples of how the feeds are displayed here : http://www.goldencan.com/samples.aspx

Data feeds are sometimes it's not so automatic, if they are provided in a CSV file.

GoldenCAN is one way (one of the easiest there is!) to import a merchant datafeed into your site(s). WebMerge is another.

Sorry for being a Newbie, but, what exactly is an "automatic feed of products from merchants" ???

    Thanks for teaching me,...

A Datafeed is a product database...
It contains information about the individual products offered by a particular merchant.

If you are lucky it is well categorized and has plenty of info..
Each product is in it's own line in the database.. the information for each product is "Usually"::::

    SKU
    BRAND
    CATEGORY
    SUBCATEGORY
    GROUP
    NAME
    DESCRIPTION
    PRICE
    SALE PRICE
    IMAGEURL
    THUMBURL
    BUYURL

    and so on........

I just love the newbie questions. Since I'm a relative newbie myself on this side of the fence, I sometimes don't know which questions to ask. Great post thus far, and helpful.

However, just help me confirm or correct my assumption here:

Providing that the datafeed providers categorize their database well, a new or established affiliate can pick and choose which products or entire categories and insert them into an already existing page on their site and include or parts or all of the categories listed above?

And, is Goldencan and Webmerge the "best" and most reliable?

I visited the sites last night, and Goldencan looked convenient. However, I do like having more control over what goes listed on the site, so Webmerge looks viable. Thanks for your first hand account, AddHandler.

I am a little concerned now about using data feeds after reading these threads

    http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=76339

    http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread...6&page=1&pp=25

any one has/ knows about any other data feed providers who might do what's mentioned in the second thread above?
