    GRRRR...These Stinkin' Tables!
    Please HELPPPPPP!

    I'm pulling my hair out and banging my head against the wall with the COLS tag. I just updated to 2.4.1 and still no luck.

    Here's what's happening:

    This tag: [WM-RECORD COLS="2"]

    creates this HTML code:

    <table>
    <tr>

    <td valign="top">
    ....product details here....
    </td>
    <td valign="top">
    ....product details here....
    </td>
    <td valign="top">
    ....product details here....
    </td>
    <td valign="top">
    ....product details here....
    </td>
    </tr>
    </table>

    Notice that it creates ONLY 1 row. The end result is multiple columns of products running across the page on a single line.

    -----------

    So I revised my WM tags to look like this: [WM-RECORD WIDTH="800" COLS="2"]

    And this produced the following HTML code:

    <table width="800">
    <tr>
    <td width="400" valign="top">
    ...product info here....
    </td>
    <td width="400" valign="top">
    ...product info here....
    </td>
    <td width="400" valign="top">
    ...product info here....
    </td>
    <td width="400" valign="top">
    ...product info here....
    </td>

    </tr>
    </table>

    Notice that it created the correct width of my columns based on 2 400 width columns and a table width of 800 but again, I only get one row.

    By the way, I am testing this with 20 records. And I have tried it with 2 columns, 3 columns, and 4 columns. Same result everytime.

    I've also tried adding in extra closing column, row, and table tags, as suggested in another thread. That didn't help either.

    Can anyone help me figure this out? Thank you much.

    Randal

    P.S. I've tried the COLS tag using both quotes around the number AND no quotes around the number. It produced the same HTML code.

    Tables are now extinct.

    Use DIV tags instead for your layout.

    Jackson992,

    Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it.

    I changed my WM tags to this:

    [WM-Record cols=3 padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 10px;
    padding-bottom: 10px width=600]
    [WM-IMAGEPATH: width="100" height="100"]<BR>
    [WM-FIELD: PRODUCT_NAME]<BR>
    $[WM-FIELD: PRICE nolink]
    [/WM-RECORD]

    And Webmerge produced this:

    <table width="600">
    <tr>

    <td width="200" valign="top">
    <a href="455044816.html" width="100" height="100"><img src="http://www.naturehills.com/product_images/thumbnails/3-Sided_Gazebo.jpg" border="0" width="100" height="100"></a><BR>

    <a href="455044816.html">3 Sided Gazebo</a><BR>
    $69.99
    </td>
    <td width="200" valign="top">
    <a href="455044818.html" width="100" height="100"><img src="http://www.naturehills.com/product_images/thumbnails/4-Sided_Gazebo.jpg" border="0" width="100" height="100"></a><BR>
    <a href="455044818.html">4 Sided Gazebo</a><BR>
    $89.99
    </td>

    ....Plus 18 more columns....

    </tr>
    </table>

    Again, the end result was 1 row of 20 columns (the # of my products).

    Double GRRRRR!

    Best123,

    Got any examples of how to do this using WM tags? Thanks!

    Sorry Randal, I don't use WebMerge.

    I learnt HTML from scratch and build my website with my own code.

    During this process I learnt how layouts using DIV tags are much more flexible and easier to maintain when compared to whole page layouts built with tables.

    But, I have to caution you that using DIV tags is an art in some ways, it takes a while to master them and make them work the way you want them to work.

    I'd say it took me about a year to master DIV tags and CSS

    I found these very useful when I was just starting:

    Hope this helps.
