I have observed while integrating automated feeds that usually the top most link on that feed takes you to a "page not found" or a
"item out of stock" leave your e-mail and we'll get back to you.
Merchants should check their links - at least - on smaller feeds.
It's a waste of time for me to contact each merchant and ask them to correct their top most links on the data feeds.
A good AM would check the links and make sure that they are not pointing to out-of-stock items or page-not-found links.
If you do want to include links to out of stock items, at least put them at the bottom of the feed.
these broken top links just make the affiliate site look bad.
