I would have thought that the ABW PLEX would have had redundant backup.

    Long time ago...

I was in the Guard.... blackout in NY for several days...

They gave me an M-16 and I patrolled the neighborhood around the Verannzano Bridge

Delis were giving me their beer, sandwiches and ice cream - before they spoiled.

Next day... still with M-16... I got to patrol Jones Beach

Generally, you don't see a guy with a semi-automatic weapon oogling bikinis on a beach

Ooh! Ouch! Went through that after a hurricane in Florida. It was miserable. My condolences.

We can cope with no power in the winter (wood stove and solar panels) but in the summer there isn't much you can do except...head out of town! Check into a motel somewhere there's still power and drown your sorrows in the shallow end of the pool with a cold drink.

Glad you got your electricity back. That can be misery. Last year, after Katrina, the first thing I bought was a generator and an $80 a/c window unit. At least I won't lose my food now and I'll have a small TV and cool air in one room...that is if my roof doesn't blow off. Last year during hurricane season, I was so desperate for a/c during blackouts I actually tried to run a pipe from the a/c blower in my car into a room in my house. It didn't work...btw...but it did distract me from being miserable for a couple of hours while I hooked it up.

I'm not going to laugh about that, because I did something similar last year!

After a couple of days without electricity last year, I sat on my car with the AC on at full blast untill the car run out of gas.
