[Help] Something weird in my Windows Folder
    $NtUninstallKB890175$

I don't know where I picked this up but my windows folder is chock full of

$NtUninstallKB890175$ one folder after the other with the name.

I am in the process of deleting these folders from my Windows folder -- are there any other precautions I should take?

    $NtUninstallKB911564$ -- thousands of these

I just manually deleted the above.

I had to be careful while deleting the above mentioned files because they had the ability to duplicate themselves. I don't see them now.

There are 3 files in my TEMP folder that I can not get rid of -- I am not sure what they are.

The remaining files in my Temp folder are:
    Perflib_Perfdata_70c a DAT file

    ZLT009f1.TMP

    ZLT009f8.TMP

I mention these remaining because usually I am able to totally clear out the TEMP folder.

My computer often runs well with a clear Temp folder so I am not sure why these 3 files remain and should I get rid of them? If I changed a name or something could I get rid of them?

I did a search on $NtUninstallKB890175$ and found this . It apparently comes with Windows Update and doesn't look like much to worry about.

why would you delete stuff when you don't know what it is? Makes sense to find out first then delete

Thank you, bumpaw, for looking up and finding that information.

The weird thing was that I was attempting to type an url in a tab of my Firefox browser to get to another site but my Firefox browser wouldn't let me and then I saw something install itself.

I deleted every $NtUninstallKB890175$ because I did not recognize the files.

I wonder about the 3 remaining files in the TEMP folder?

Bumpaw, that was very nice of you to look up that information for me and I appreciate it

Because I have not seen those files before in the Windows folder and I panicked (read my other post -- I could not type an url into another Firefox tab in the browser -- that is something that usually does not happen).

The arrangement of those previously unkknown files looked odd --
[ I usually stay away from .dll files and other files that are supposed to be good although I do not understand them ]

Windows and/or browser updates usually notify me of the download so I was suspicious of the files referred to above.

What are these in my TEMP folder?

    Perflib_Perfdata_70c -- a DAT file

    ZLT009f1.TMP

    ZLT009f8.TMP

Plus in the not-so-distant past I did encounter a problem with typing an apostrophe ' in this forum during one incident (subsequently I have not encountered that problem) so I routinely go into my Windows file and I delete items in TEMP and in the Cache.

if you keep going thru the results you will find that one of them states those files are created when you don't shut down windows properly.

as for your other tmp files, most likely they are in use, therefore not deleteable until you reboot your system

Firefox is great but occasionally it gets a problem that just closing and reopening solves.

I have purged many a PC demon with information quickly found with a Google search. Usually you won't be the first to have a problem and helpful folks everywhere are posting solutions. I don't delete anything unless I know what it is, and most bad stuff is never as easy as just deleting a couple of files.

I think the ZL XXXX.tmp are for Zone Alarm...are you using this or a different firewall that then logs the results?

If your getting scared of what's on your puter do a full back up and consider wiping the slate clean, then reinstal (pain in the butt but every 6-12 mos or so keeps things running smooth for me)

    B;-)ing

Thank you. You are right, I use Zone Alarm now so that must be the difference.

I know this question is going to sound stupid but when people say "full back up" I am not sure how to do that -- is that a suggestion to burn everything onto a CD-ROM?

I think I'm okay and I thank you for your suggestions.

Oh no! You didn't delete the $NtUninstallKB890175$ file?

The next day (After 12:00:01 Midnight) when you boot it your screne will look the same but its not going to be. Windows might error out trying to find that file. Your going to experience many many bad infested deletes. These typically are caused by fear of being exposed to outside control by those you can not control.

Burning to a CD Rom will increase the repeat factor of this infestation of delete.

Owners will find they are deleting everything suspecious everyday. Then one day they find they only have DOS to be Attacked.

Then your going to have to install Windows 3.11 and start over.

It will not be a pretty site.

How about if you just install an update that came after that one? Would that install another uninstaller?
