Gametap - $20 per lead - not paying?!
    Hey people

I hope you can give me some updates or let me know what's going on with this issue, because I only get updates on that from the manager of the website Kolimbo.com

Please have a look on this URL:

    http://teamaffiliate.kowabunga.com/a...ap_20_per.html

I started on July 2006 to promote Gametap in my website

Gametap said they will pay $20 to every member you refer to them to sign up with their Free Trial

    In this URL

    http://affiliates.gametap.com/aff_program.html

They say that they use Kolimbo.com to track the leads for them, I'm stating what they say:

We've partnered with KowaBunga! Technologies to track all of the activity you send our way with their My Affiliate Program Software (MyAP). MyAP will give you an ID number a login page and access to lots of great reports and tools. Plus, since we're using MyAP to run our Affiliate Program, you'll be able to track your activities with your Kolimbo account.

    Okay, so far so good

I paid members (as a part of my incentives website) to sign up with the trial, I made sure with Brad (the affiliate manager in KowaBunga! / Kolimbo) that incentives are allowed, we even keeped in touch all the time, almost everyday during the month of July

Okay, so 15th of August was payment time (Net 15) and then Brad told me Gametap didn't pay all the money they should have paid

He mentioned that Gametap wants to pay only for members who stayed after the free trial period, but I'm not sure that is the reason

Anyway, if that is the reason why Gametap won't have a look in their TOS ??

    Here:

    http://affiliates.gametap.com/aff_agreement.html

$20 for each “Subscriber” who is “Derived” from a Link you made available on Your Site.

A “Subscriber” means any person who has completed the registration path located at the GameTap Site, submitted a valid credit card, entered GameTap’s “Free Trial” period, and has not received access to GameTap’s service in connection with a prior subscription, another promotion, or a complimentary offer.

A potential Subscriber will be deemed “Derived” from a Link you made available on Your Site only if the following two conditions are met: (1) the potential Subscriber visits the GameTap Site within 15 calendar days after clicking the Link on Your Site; and (2) the potential Subscriber has not obtained a source-identifying “cookie” from one or more of GameTap’s other promotional affiliates (including but not limited to other Kowabunga Affiliates, other online affiliates, and/or other marketing partners), or otherwise participated in another promotional opportunity after clicking on the Link on Your Site and before becoming a Subscriber.

Gametap doens't mention anything about that the user must stay with the trial and Kolimbo knows it, they told me it by themselves!

I don't know if you took part of it, but I really don't feel comfortable about that, I'm sure Kolimbo network (Kowabunga! Technologies) tries to do their best to solve this issue, but I don't understand why we, the publishers, should get "punished" with delay payment (hopefully delayed and not nothing) for Gametap program?

I paid for each one of my members in my website to take this trial, I had to confirm they aren't cheating, check their sub-ids, and I made sure everything's okay, Brad knows it too

I don't see any problem with my activity, it's simply Gametap which is acting like a bunch of scammers, I don't understand why they don't pay

Anyone knows more about this issue and when it will be resolved?

The feeling I worked hard & honest, and not only that but paid members too, and all I get is nothing back is bothering me

I wish I could know where or what I can do in a case they don't pay, but it's the Internet, sounds to me like every company can scam you if it just feel like it, right?

    You have nothing to say?

    43 views and 0 replies

If you don't wanna read a long text I'll try to summarize it

Gametap promised to pay $20 per lead

Now it seems they don't wanna pay for all the leads

What can we (the publishers who took Gametap campaign) can do about it?

The network that connects by the way between Gametap (the advertiser) and us (the publishers) is Kolimbo.com (Kowabunga! technologies)

Kolimbo's accounting dept is working on this issue right now, trying to solve it

The only thing that bothers me is they promised to pay in Net15 terms, and in August 15 I was supposed to get paid for July's leads

Now because of all this I might get paid lately or perhaps not get paid at all

Is there anything I can do about it?

I got an answer from Kolimbo

In the TOS they say "or intentional manipulations of the registration"

Well, in that case they're right..

Does it have something to do with you offering them money to sign up for Game Tap?

    Well, I still don't know :/

Because I'm waiting for their stats to see if 1 or more or all of my leads were cancelled

But basically from what I asked them it seems like there is a problem

In the beginning they allowed me to use Incentives and in the middle of August they stopped it

Now Incentvies & intentional manipulation can't coincide, that's what I told them, so they told me to wait to see the results and then see what I can do

I don't know what to tell you man, currently it might be okay and it might be not, I really don't know

My best suggestion to you is to wait for the results and then make a decidion

You know Gametap is owned by Time Warner (AOL) and pushed through Turner Broadcasting, so just prod them for payment by telling them your a Bush Bashing liberal socialist with a huge following. the Adwhore Idiots running Gametap know it's just a frontdoor for some fresh meat info peddling backdoor direct advertising plans.

IF they pay 20.00 for that info through incentive affiliates, then everytime they can kite those affiliates they get a 100% profit margin.... then bill the gamers 15.00/month on day 14. Some free trial fish complain about huge download times with no obvious save features for old arcade type games available on the underworld at a 3 for $10.00 CD bargain fee.. Rotflol:

Meanwhile the North Koreans are seeking major city street venders giving out fresh 100.00 bills for $40 used bucks. Vendors keep $10.00 and pass on the rest, while pointing $100.00 bill bargain hunters to the hated drug dealers and pimps down the street. Guess there are risks in paying $5.00 cold cash for $20.00 bills from the Time Warner Group. Not the same risk as giving some dealer, or whore, a fresh Korean hundie and expecting serives and change... Ain't capitalism and incentive marketing a can of worms?

I'm glad anyway if it makes you laugh

Can you please by the way, explain me what should I do? What is the point you tried to make?

Well...someone like GameTap might value a single subscription sale as being worth $100 (or more...). They are extremely happy to pay you $20 to get a sale like that. Once a customer signs on and plays for several months....do the math: $20 a month x 5 months etc. They are making way more than $20.

If they have a GOOD affiliate program - they would be listening to you and address the issue. If they are running a large-corporate "fire and forget" program then they couldn't give a sh*t about your payment problems. In either case, you may want to consider dropping them.

I looked at their webpage and didn't see any affiliate program mentioned - which suggests they are having it run by a 3rd party (Kolimbo). Getting your issue addressed is probably going to require direct contact with someone who has control over their affiliate program...

Well, it's Brad Litwin, he is the person who has control over their affiliate program

I'm waiting now for the stats from Brad to see how many leads are good and how many aren't

I have generated 22 leads ($440) and Brad says that approx 50 leads out of 1300 are "bad leads"

I hope my 22 aren't among those 50 but we have to wait and see

PS IronChef, I PMed you back, I hope you saw my message

    *****UPDATE*****

I would like to let you know the issue has been resolved for us!

Brad Litwin did all he can along with the Kolimbo network to solve the issue with Gametap - all of our 22 leads with Gametap are approved!

Though they told me some publishers got chagebacks by Gametap - our account is 100% okay and all of our leads are fine, and I'm sure other good publishers have the same stats we have

I'd like to thank Brad for working a lot on this issue, and solving it

I am sorry this post started with a bad impression, but glad it's okay now!

As for all publishers - you can run Gametap, however,
Please be aware Gametap is available only to Non-Incentives websites! (US traffic only!)
