I was in the process of downloading the CRITICAL UPDATE package on windows update (IE6) when suddenly...NORTON VIRUS ALERT (WINDOWS/Java/classes/xmldso.cab) -unnamed and rare- popped up. It was quarantined and deleted successfully.
    Can anyone explain this??

This is apparently common and is likely a false detectioin:

Strange that you found a virus through a windows update...taht's a suprise. However, I guess you don't remember or hadn't taken note of the name of the virus.

That could have helped in knowing how it actually could get in there...Perhaps it wasnt a virus anyways.

    Regards

TGO - it isn't a virus. It's a "false positive". Some innocent files and programs will kick off virus alerts and apparently Windows Update is a prime offender.

Norton has a patch for this particular one at the link I posted above.
