Question Link to Specific Merchant Pages w/o Using "Create Links"
I have a situation where I have people helping with my site that I would prefer not have access to sensitive data in my LinkShare.com profile. Consequently, they would not be able to use the "Create Links" functionality on the linkshare website. I would still like for them to be able to link directly to specific products/pages on a merchant's site.
I have seen at least one affiliate site where links to products are offered by users of the site in the user forums. I'm sure that these people are not logging in to LinkShare to create these links to specific product pages.
Many sites actually redirect to a page on their site, maybe including querystring parameters, and then "some code" redirects to the specific product.
My question is... how this is properly done in order to register the linksynergy click, as well as redirect to a specific product. Is there a LinkShare sanctioned approach to this?
My approach so far... I have written some javascript that will fire in the onclick event of an href to direct a new browser window to the merchants home page via the linksynergy link (dropped everything after the '.' in the linksynergy offerid) and then after some time interval it directs the newly opened browser to the product link (h ttp://merchant name.com/product) on the merchants site. This is definitely not a clean approach and probably not all that bullet-proof. My site is .NET if that matters.
I have searched the forum for this topic specifically, but have not seen anything that answers my exact question (or maybe it did and I'm too newbie to realize it!).

    I appreciate the help!

    Hiya

The best solution that I can think of (and it won't work for all merchants) is as follows

You will need to create a Root Custom URL for each merchant you wish to work with, the Root Custom URL is only available where merchants allow deep linking.

Once you have that then your designers can add the trageted landing pages on to the Root Custom URL and it will work fine....

    An example :

The Root Custom URL (for me) for DriveWerks is

    Code:
    http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=yh2rM/1KfGc&subid=1&offerid=56490.1&type=10&subid=0;tmpid=1527&RD_PARM1=
    (it's different for each merchant)

You can provide that for you designers and then have them add the landing page on to the end of it (in ASCII format)

    So :

    Code:
    http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/shopcart/PERF/POR_PERF_msdign_pg11.htm
    Becomes :

    Code:
    http%3A%2F%2Fwww.drivewerks.com%2Fcatalog%2Fshopcart%2FPERF%2FPOR_PERF_msdign_pg11.htm
And then that ends up as :

    Code:
    http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=yh2rM/1KfGc&subid=1&offerid=56490.1&type=10&subid=0;tmpid=1527&RD_PARM1=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.drivewerks.com%2Fcatalog%2Fshopcart%2FPERF%2FPOR_PERF_msdign_pg11.htm
But as I said it will only work on merchants that have deep/custom linking activate.

    Cheers

Thank you Chris. That will definitely improve the situation where it applies.

I'm still interested in solutions others might have tried for launching a browser, hitting linksynergy in the new browser and then redirecting to the specific product page. Once completed, there should be an updated linksynergy cookie and an updated merchant cookie on the user's machine.

    Anyone?

    Thanks again,
