Today is the great day. 57 years ago the World war II is over by the victory of Russia. Many people died in battles vs German invaders. Rest in peace and god bless you.

The whole world was relieved of a huge threat to all it's citizens when the Nazis were forced to surrender. We appreciate Russia's help on the War on Terrorism along with the Brits, Aussies, Canadians and even the Pakis.

The Russians call WWII the "Great Patriotic War" - essentially it was a fight for survival against an enemy who treated them as subhuman.

In Britain you sometimes see shrapnel-scarred buildings as a result of bombing. The bombed-out shell of Coventry Cathedral stands as a monument to the horrors of war, but this is NOTHING compared to what was suffered in the Soviet Union, Germany and Eastern Europe. Think of it like the WTC attack every day for four years.

The evil doers are not Germans, Afghans, Muslims, Communists or even Americans but their (often elected) leaders who are blinded by a belief that there own people are superior to everyone else on earth.

Should we be worried? Well, Milosevic and his allies are on trial for crimes against humanity, extreme nationalist Le Pen was in the final round of the French presidential elections and even people like George W Bush seem to be content to tear up every treaty signed in the past fifty years. Damn right, we should be worried.

I have complete admiration for the Russians. They are really good scrappers being second to none in hand to hand combat. Many German soldiers are quoted as commenting on their durability. I certainly would not want to pick a fight with them! The Russian people have suffered so much in the last hundred years. I just wish them the best, as they deserve it.

And now terrorists have set off a bomb at a victory day parade in Dagestan, killing over 30.

Some years ago the IRA blew up a Rememberance Sunday gathering in Northern Ireland where people gather together to remember the war dead - this is the same thing all over again.

    Sickening, absolutely sickening.

Russia also kicked the bejeezus outta Napoleon, too. I read somewhere that only 10,000 men or so survived out of Napoleon's original force of 500,000....
