We just got whacked again, I will not say who was reading what thread (Ahem) but seconds thereafter we got slammed with 94,083 requests!

The Law on DoS attacks say that we have to prove the loss of at least $5K to put them in Jail ... so my hands are bound!

    PS. They are in CA!

Wouldn't that depend on how you cost your time?

Take em to small claims court for each seperate incident. If their attack takes a coupla hours of your time to work out and research, and your worth a coupla hundred dollars an hour, file it in NY and let them come to you.

That can be cumulative, right? Does it have to be just *your* loss or loss of those attempting to access the forum for research purposes in order to do their work?

Maybe it's time to put some < deny > lines in your .htaccess file.

Would it be possible to just cause maybe 4K worth to the attacker ?

Small claims is a good idea too

DoS attacks are almost definitely a violation of their ISP's AUP.

What is ABW EPC - 94,083 times your EPC is how much you really did lose. This is the thrid the math.

Take it to the feds...Your EPC has to be more than enough to make $5,000.

Haiko, I am not a whiz at this but here goes a thought I had.

I have noticed a lot of requests almost every day on my site for files -- looking for ways to get in for front page etc...

Could it be possible that this peson is hitting all of us? If so, could we forward our stats with the IP and see if it matches up to the ones you are seeing?

If there is a match, then that would be more to help you and us all.
