    W8 Forms
    Hi all,

I just signed up today to this forum, and first impressions, it seems great. I hope to learn alot here.

I signed up with CJ yesterday and need to fill out a W8 form.

I live in Ontario, Canada and am a individual who is an affiliate marketer.

Now, this forms is confusing me. I have done some research on this site, but didn't find the info I was looking for.

I know what the purpose of this form is and have read through the instructions for this form but it is still confusing.

I have answered Part 1 Item 1,3,4,5. I put myself as an individual.

I left Part 1 Item 2,6,7,8 blank. (Item 7 says I can use my SIN, but am reluctant to give this information, is this a must?

Part II Item 9 I don't understand. Under 9(a) I put I was a resident of Canada, and left the rest blank

Part III Item 11 - left blank

    Part IV - self explanatory

I just want to know if I am missing something?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Troy

You don't need to fill the W8 form - you don't need to send it to CJ.

You'll receive your commissions normally if you do not send it.

TECHNICALLY, if you reside and work from Canada and do not have any assests or employees based in USA producing revenue in a CJ program, you do NOT need to fill out a W8, or a W8BEN.

BUT, CJ's accounts/legal department, who are too lazy to actually make the effort to learn this, take the lazy "safe" way out by forcing everyone to fill one out, even those who needn't under IRS rules.

It all relates to the IRS term "source of income" and CJ cannot grasp the correct meaning of that term.

They think that means "source of the payment for work done" which would mean that the CEO of CJ, when paying the gardener of his holiday home in the Dominican Republic must make the poor guy will out a W8 first.

in reality it means "source of "work done". As in you're in Canada, your website is hosted in Canada, so the "work" is being done in Canada.

But try and explain that to CJ, you're better off hammering rusty nails into your willy.

The best explanation of who needs to and doesn't need to fill out a W8 or W8BEN is found at Google's Adsense site.

    https://www.google.com/adsense/taxinfo

But as I say, good luck!
