    An AM Motivation Style
that actually annoyed me more than pumped me up:

    Hello MERCHANT Publishers,
If this program is going to be successful for everyone involved we must generate more leads!!! ........ I will be calling those of you with contact numbers in the very near future, if I have not spoken to you already. Hope you are all working hard, and keep up the good work!
Am I just in low tolerance mode or what?

Been away, now I'm back. Not as much, but I'm back & starting from scratch. Where I was, was fantastic. Where I am now, less so. Things have changed, become harder. So have I. Game ON!!!

That would have annoyed me too, Popdawg. But I'm getting way more intolerant of lots of things the older I get. LOL

The things an AM gets to learn at abw .

Some reason, "hope you're working hard" sounded offensive to me, don't know why. but why would a merchant expect their affiliates to work hard! It's not like affiliatea are employed by them, neither do merchants pre-pay affiliates who agree to do certain amount of "work" for them.

Doubt that he will get much impact from that email...

Nah, Pop you are not in low tolerance mode. While I understand the merchants desire that his affiliates push his program, his motivational style focuses on one thing - HIS needs! He's either very young and inexperienced at motivating others or he just doesn't get it.

I referred him to CT and R7 for an education!!! LOL

No, as mentioned that sounds like a veiled threat that the program will close if people don't "hop on it". There are much better ways to motivate people than to threaten them with a "let's see how hard you are working" phone call....

I agree except for the "don't know why" part. It's because this joker is showing an empl*yer-like attitude! If any of us wanted a j*b, we wouldn't be doing this!!

I'd immediately back-burner that program until they got a new AM (or hit Drop if I didn't think he'd be replaced). And if the guy got antsy and hit "drop affiliate" first, oh well.

Needless to say, I wouldn't answer any calls. No way would I put up with some clod calling with the attitude that he could demand explanations!

I'd reply to the email and tell him that the best time to call is between 3 AM and 5 AM, but not if the moon is full.

The very first line tells me the program is not successful. The rest makes it sound like we might get "laid off" if we don't snap to it. hmmmmm. This is exactly why not every AM out there has contact information.

I learned a lot about growing an affiliate program because affiliates taught me. The respect has to go both ways. Maybe point the AM to this thread, so we can teach him/her that affiliate marketing is not about managing affiliates, it's about working with them. Being an affiliate manager doesn't give you status or seniority over affiliates, lol In my experience, it's usually the other way around!! Can't tell you how many times I've been schooled!

    Excellent points, Carolyn.

Yes, Dawg, send the AM to this thread! If he/she cares about his/her affiliate program, he/she will browse around ABestWeb, and learn a bunch of other useful things too.

He truly sounds like a person who is anxious to get his program pumping but just lacks an understanding of how to work "for" and "with" others. Having him visit here would be a good education for him, and maybe benefit his affiliates too.

Is he an inhouse AM, or the owner? Sounds like this program needs to be outsourced.

    and a follow up:

So far this month the leads have dropped dramatically, by almost 50 per day, and many of these are repeat visitors to your sites. We all need to start ramping up our efforts to make this program a success (with the exception of a few go-getters).
This is a merchant who has been mentioned around here previously for doing things like sending emails with all the affiliate contact emails attached, having adsense links all over their site, etc.

I'd hit the drop button but I kind of want to see where they go next.
