    Hi Haiko and all,

I'm hoping someone can help me get a domain name I purchased.

    Here's the story...

I've been trying to Snap a domain name for months. It expired July 2001 and is Yahoo listed.

I wrote to SnapNames for advice and they suggested contacting the host.

I did... and to my surprise was told the domain was available! I was very excited and gave them my credit card information. They asked my to send my hosting information, which I did.

This was a week ago... the name was not switched over. The old registrants name is gone now... but the place I contacted is still listed as the registrar.

After calling and getting a machine several tmes, I finally got a hold of the person who sold me the name on the phone.

He said that actually the name belonged to one of their "resellers" who would not release it. I asked for the name of the reseller. He gave me the URL and I contacted them.

The "resellers" promptly wrote back and said:

"We are the name server for this domain, however we are neither the registrant nor any type of contact agent for it. We do apologize for not being able to assist you and wish you the best with the transfer.

However, for your knowledge, we have received many complaints from our
customers regarding the practices of xxxxxxxxxx.com"

I really want this domain name!

Is there anything I can do now to get it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Doesn't cut it when it comes down to fraud!

I have heard of registrars who unscrupol.. unscroup.. ummm.. keep hold on the domains even when the ICANN rules say they should be deleted.

Basically they could/should be reported to ICANN for this kind of practice.

As a side note though, AOL and DMOZ both had what seemed to be long-expired names which they claimed had been renewed but weren't showing because of technical difficulties with the registrar.. who were also owned by AOL Time Warner. Hmmm.
