Question CJ merchant tells readers to delete cookies
I was looking to further promote one of my CJ merchants and was looking through their site for good categories/products. Their "sale" section page tells readers to delete all their cookies (so they can see the latest sale price) and gives detailed instructions on how to do this.

Isn't this a violation of CJ merchant terms? I wrote the AM, but should I contact CJ anyway?

Sure. Don't forget, CJ don't make their 30% if the cookies are deleted.
This merchant is just trying to defraud both affiliates and the network.

Joy - you should pick up the phone and call CJ immediately. Sharing it on the board is good, but making a call to their oxygen supplier would be even better. It's pitiful that a merchant would stoop to this kind of chicanery. That practice will surely help them to put themselves out of their internet misery. They shot themselves in the foot, and now affiliates can help them raise the barrel a few feet and finish the job!

Stupid merchant! Don't deserve to have affiliates.
Not only they sr@w their partners but they scare their customers with deleting cookies.

Sounds like maybe the merchant just doen't know the difference in cookies and cache. Clearing cookies would not allow the shoppper to see the latest prices. Clearing the cache and refreshing the page would allow the shopper to see the latest web page. But, then again, it could be a devious merchant.

It doesn't matter what the merchant is trying to tell the customer to do.

What the merchant is telling the customer to do will clear all affiliate cookies and you will not get paid for your sales from this merchant.

I'm no einstein but if you are a first time visitor, your cache wouldn't have anything old in it. So refreshing would just display what your already seeing.

    Ooh, and it's leaky, too!

I spy an 800 phone number, a leak to fabulous bridal dot com. And they also have a catalog.
So what do you guys think? Is this company slimy and trying to steal commissions or are they just clueless?

I'm affiliated with them, but thank God I never promoted them. This merchant should be brought to CJ's attention.

Well that explains why sales ground to a halt.

When they were indy I used to get big commiss every month when they joined Befree first and now cj not a cracker, so much so I stopped promoting them a while ago.
After knowing what you can make with them when the program was straight, to the pathetic returns on cj just not worth the effort!

Wrote CJ about this, I'm sure this is one email they'll respond to!

At first, I felt the same way--they were clueless and I would give them the benefit of the doubt. But the site is a very pro site, and great catch Rhea! I didn't see that leak to their bridal company--it's on every page. Their sites aren't homeboy jobs.

As Gene said, you clear your cache to refresh info, not delete your cookies. I can't believe their IT dept. is that clueless. They aren't.

Not our problem whether they're idiots or thieves.

And thank you for all the responses! I didn't want to feel that I was just being a b*tch.

If a merchant runs an affiliate program and tells their readers to delete their cookies--well, they have to pay the consequences. This is business, not kindergarten.
