    ShopWiki?
Doesn't look like a real wiki, but has been crawling a couple of my sites heavily and I see my product links in there when I search ....

Good? Bad? Anybody care? lol.... I never heard of it until I checked my logs tonight.... and saw 70k + hits from the spider....

They've been getting some good press in web 2.0 circles. They spider shopping sites and price match everything. It's a pretty huge system and they've got some innovative features like their video reviews and color picker product filter. The only thing is there is no opt in and they're showing a lot of copyrighted product photos. I'm afraid certain brand protection services might start throwing C&D's their way. Otherwise they've accomplished quite a feat.

WTF, you mean they're showing merchants' stuff without commissionable links?! What's the point?

I think they're going to try to earn money through contextual advertising. They do have quite a lot of prices and even beat out some of the biggest shopping comparison engines in terms of merchant diversity. So at least they're focusing on providing a useful service for customers.

    .... -_-

Well, that "make money later" part sounds rather built-on-sand, but I'll take a free listing where I can get it.

Although judging by their PR2, it won't do a heckuva lot of good even if their spider does come my way, or at least it won't until they get more established.

    Edit:

Hmm, I was kind of wondering about this after I reread the posts in this thread. A spider that can grab massive amounts of data, and a database (and related programming) that can make sense of it all? I thought there may be some money hiding behind it...

    Seems that there is!

So maybe it'll actually turn into something, or at least it may if they successfully monetize it...

They've obviously trolled my merchant client's sites http://www.shopwiki.com/search.jsp?q=Mens+suspenders and show lots of offering by various color choices. Must be seeking Adwords clicks where displayed choices don't inspire a click

Looks like Shopwiki has some competition in spider based price comparison:

    http://www.iac.com/index/news/press_...il.htm?id=7872

It looks like they have a PPC engine for advertisers who want to pay for better exposure. This could just be a viable business model. Provide every price on the internet, but advertisers who want to pay will be listed first. This really makes the spider price comparison model look more appealing.
