    netshops workaround
just interested in knowing if you had a workaround for netshops affiliate feeds.. as it says

Notice: All of our datafeeds make use of the <q> tag in order to eliminate duplicate content problems for our product descriptions. Do not remove the <q> tag from the product descriptions. Again, note that WebMerge will not generally work with our feeds because of the <q> tag.

Are you asking because you want to use it? I kind of got the impression from one of your other threads you were poo pooing Webmerge.

What exactly is this "<q>" tag?

Richard I would suggest going to netshops and asking for a copy of their feed. Morethanable won't be answering that question....

It's a quotation tag in HTML/XHTML and it adds fancy quotes aroud the copy within it. I don't quite understand how it's supposed to differentiate their product descriptions from those available directly on their own websites, but they still use it. You can read more information about the quotation tag at W3Schools here:

Okay, so I've done one or two sites with Webmerge -- the first so long ago that I had to "relearn" it for the second! -- and I would appreciate any follow-up posts to this thread.

Is there any sort of workaround? Anybody know?

I have a couple of scripts I use with datafeeds besides Webmerge. But Webmerge is a terrific addition to any web builder's "arsenal," and I would love to be able to figure out a way to use it with some of netshop's smaller feeds on some niche domains and subdomains.

If your field already contains valid HTML you can tell WebMerge not to do any further processing by just adding the "raw" attribute to the WM-Field tag. See the WebMerge Help section on the WM-Field tag for details on that and other optional attributes.
