CMS and Shopping carts...And thanks Loxy!
This thread is an excuse to thank Loxy (I can't PM yet), who helped me out a bit whilst choosing a better CMS/shopping cart set-up for my online store. Thanks Loxy! I really appreciated you advice.

I spent the week installing and testing a bunch of systems....

-joomla (a great content system, avaiable with CSS/ Xhtml options for very fast loading)
-joomla with oscommerce plugged in as the shopping cart (a bit clunky)
-joomla with virtuemart plugged in (a bit too new ..is only version 1.0)
    - creloaded (loads slowly due to complex table template structure)
-cubecart (loads very fast, has CSS/Xhtml, but no bulk product uploader)
    -X-cart (costs a ton)
    -zen cart

I researched some other solutions, but rejected them due to price or lack of features (and in most cases both). I did not have a look as OSCMAX or oscommerce, because zen cart and creloaded are versions of that.

In the end I chose Zen cart. If anyone else is looking for a great cart/CMS in one solution, I'd definately recommend this over all the others by a long shot.

There are too many reasons to mention without boring everyone, but here a few of the major reasons I've chosen it:

-Fast site navigation (uses CSS/validated Xhtlm)
-Template Customisation easily available on a per page basis, unlike just about every system I looked at (except joomla)
    -Bulk product upload
-Very full set of general features
-Free, and most additional modules are also free
    -Cross selling compnents.

The only feature it lacks is dynamic Feed inputs such as RSS, XML
Anyone needing that feature would be best to use Joomla (a CSS/ Xhtml version).

Anyway thanks again Loxy! And I hope this helps someone out there going through similar research.

Does Zen Cart allow you to use affiliate links so that you can replace the functionality of "buy" with a simply url to another website? Thanks.

It does not, but you can get a php programmer to make that functionality available. PM me for a recommendation.
