Lightbulb ABW AM/Merchant/Affil meeting, Syracuse NY
I'm proposing a get-together for coffee, etc., perhaps at one of the Borders Book Shops in Syracuse. Many of us can't/don't get to the more regional to-do's so this could be our social/technical/whatever contact closer to our homes.

Timing: which is better -- afternoon or evening, weekday or weekend day? And do you know of a better location?

I do know from prior posts that there could be interest (based on weather conditions, of course) anywhere from Buffalo to Albany and down to Elmira. Gas prices are getting a little more reasonable here, which is also a factor.

    Ideas, anyone?

Syracuse NY is a bit far for me, it's over 4 hours.... I guess I'd be willing to make the trip, but 8 hours worth of driving is a lot.... How about people further south? I wouldn't mind driving 2 hours away, but 4+ is a bit far.... Anyone from the DE, MD, PA, NJ, NY area?

Will there be booth sponsorships and door prizes?

You can't hit me unless you come to Vegas in January

And I drove from Vegas for the meeting.

    But it was at Disneyland!!!

Herb's "Fall Summit 2006" is at Borders Books... so my drive-time limit would be... 10 minutes

onceuponatime there was a rotating penthouse restaurant in Syracuse and the evening (can't remember if it was the entertainment or the waitresses) were called The Foxes. Would have been a good place.

Guess we're stuck with a fair-to-middlin' coffeeshop until the sponsors roll in. then they can take it over.

actually, I'm proposing a periodic get-together, maybe every month or every other week; something like that.

If you get it happening, PM me your address

I'll send you a bunch of the... er... useless trinkets... they hand out at the bigger events (Shoehorns that say Partner Centric , can koozies that say Commission Junction, coffee mugs that say Shareasale, more CafePress refrigerator magnets than anyone will ever need)...

Don't tell Deb, but I'll be more than happy to unload my gross of "Team Loxly" buttons

    that kind of stuff...

and you can have your own micro summit

PM Michael Coley that there's a free buffet, and you'll have a guaranteed attendee

love to even have the resources to set up a formal meet closer to a larger population center, but will let those who stand to profit from it do it.

We do have over a half-dozen affiliate-types within a reasonable radius. Maybe they'll see this thread and give opinions.

My income lately guarantees me a cup of good coffee and a piece of cake. or we'll allow newbies if they are buying.

Herb, I'll come if I can schedule a Slamtrak ride to coincide and if you'll provide transport to and from the train station in Syracuse.

If we're going to do this monthly maybe we could rotate between Syracuse, Albany, Utica, whatever. What do you think?

    Cool
I think we're getting somewhere on this. By the way, transportation from the train station is not a problem as it is only a hop/skip/jump from the Pyramid Mall, assuming early meetings are at the Borders right there.

And I should be doing some research as to a good time for it as they are sometimes busy (need a Plan B).

[for the record] This is the local/regional social gathering that can be moved between several cities across NY, assuming someone in another city will take the responsibility for finding a suitable location. It may never get beyond that function, but at some point merchants may want to participate to a greater degree and provide facilities and other goodies. (to be discussed) [/for the record]

It's early, yet, even though we'll be fighting weather soon. Let's gather a few more indications of interest.

How about Turning Stone Casino Meet and try to beat the slots/dealers

If we did weeekday, it would have to be at Chuck E Cheeses unless I can get a babysitter.

I'm sure I can get Packy to attend. How about the folks in Rottenchester?

pro: I like it too | I've got money on my card there | easy to get to | great place with proper organization to set it up but it takes the coffeeklatches first and we're going to head into lousy weather for travel very soon

anti: think we're still talking coffeeshop level meeting to just chew the fat | place is too noisy without renting a quiet meeting spot | would need to take it to a higher plane with external organization finding a quiet meeting room | need a whole buncha merchants showing up to pick up the coffee/room/buffet tab (it's gotten expensive!) | 'way too early in my opinion | could start looking like a Summit with expensive admission requirements

perhaps soon we should gather a list of the interested and poll which day / which place /
