    Window Count
Random poll along the lines of "spinning your wheels" or "what does it take?"

How many windows do you have open right now?

    I just counted 15 on 2 computers.

Is that silly or normal? Do efficient people keep everything open or close things often?

9...outlook, draft email, excel, notepad, IE, IM, two Mozilla windows.

But the Mozilla windows each have two tabs open...how do you count that?

Just 2, now. 1 Firefox and 1 Outlook Express.

I closed the other 5 FF windows before I came back here.
(I really can't see the point of bothering with the tabs...)

Usually I have 3 or 4 going: One game, the email, a window to ABW and some other browser window to whatever's interesting at the time. And sometimes Dreamweaver, too, but I usually end up closing the game when I run that in order to free up the RAM.

Fun question Danny. I would not have thought about that one in the normal course of things.

As Zach and the other guys at the office are the techs, and I am a neat-nick by design, I generally only have two or three open at a time, where they may have 10 - 15.

I'm learning though, and I aspire to one day take the plunge, push the envelope and see how it feels to have double digit windows open at one time. I've heard it's a "rush" - but I guess I've been hesitant up to now as I did not want to take a chance on altering the space / time continuum!

I must be slacking off. It gets as high as 30 at times, what with GIMP and such.

We love the autorecover functions in the office suite And I am pretty anal about saving frequently while working on docs or spreadsheets, I have been computing since before most of the folks here were born.... (or knew what a computer was anyway) and have lost more than my share of work to green or blue screeens of death, power outages, network crashes and gremlins of all kinds.....

Alan, it isn't a "rush" to have that many windows open, it's normal work throughout the day and it just happens to be how it is.

Well, it's late so I only have 8 open right now. On a 'good' day it can get well into the teens or even 20+

Thanks to Firefox it is this low. I have eleven default tabs that are always open and when in work mode that can climb well past 30.

    Is this productivity...or insanity?
