New merchant: How do you deal with VAT?
    Hi affiliate gurus,

We are a company in Sweden selling web services world-wide. Affiliate market seems to be a very good way to getting help with selling our services so we have been investigating the new world of affiliate and also signed up with SAS.

We are now in the process of implementing the tracking on our order page and just though about one thing, VAT. How do you handle this?

Do you always have the final sum including or excluding VAT or do you look at where the customer is from?

Any kind of info would be appriciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    David

    Hi David

I imagine the issue of VAT varies from country to country, for example for us (Thailand) , affiliate marketing is an export service because the end results all occur overseas, therefore we do not need to charge or pay VAT.

    Cheers

Thanks for the answer Chris, and you are right. I guess it varies much between different countries.

The scenarios for us in Sweden are:
    - Individual inside EU, including VAT
    - Company inside EU, excluding VAT
    - Other country, excluding VAT
    - Sweden, including VAT

But the major question really is this: Can we just always base the commission on the sale without VAT? Becouse the VAT is something that we will never get anyways.

Here in the US, we don't have to pay VAT, but on some purchases there's "sales tax" instead.

There are no commissions paid on sales tax. I would expect the same with VAT.

    Thanks.

I will follow your advise. We will always exclude VAT when calculating commission. I have gotten this indication from other sources also.

Big thanks again and case closed.
