I've recently managed to get a page in second place on Inktomi/AOL/MSN that according to WordTracker gets aprox. 50 searches a day. But I'm getting about one or two hits a day from that.

Also I'm at about 11th for a phrase that gets 300+ searches a day and I'm seeing very similar, low results for that too.

What does it take to get some traffic off these engines?

    Am I aiming too low?

I am #1 at MSN (through Inktomi listing) for a keyword phrase that is searched for about 170 times a day. I get around 30 - 40 visits a day for that.

I suppose the clickthroughs may depend heavily on what is in position #1 too. Perhaps that site is too good to be true and visitors click on it never to return to the search results.

Also make sure your description is enticing. Make the visitors want to visit your site.

Are there directory listings and the like ahead of the web pages section?

Thanks for all the tips, perfectG!

These listings only went up a few days ago. Since I posted this message they have got a few hits, so maybe I was just jumping the gun
