Wink "It's All About The O"
Ok, I can't take it anymore, I have got to get this off my chest...

Everytime I hear an Overstock.com commercial, and they say "It's all about the O", I just about lose it!

When I hear that phrase, I don't think of Overstock, I think of ORGASM!!

I bet that is not what their ad guru's had in mind!

Please tell me I am not the only one... or that I am a pervert!

(well I guess after sharing this with you all I won't be the only one cause you are sure to think of it now! ha ha ha!!)

I betcha it is what their "gurus" had in mind.

Years ago I worked for a company called Olsten's. They used the tagline "The Big O" in their advertising. They were very well aware that people snickered about the nickname but they didn't change it because it helped people remember the brand.

    It's dopey but it works.

You betcha the gurus know - that's exactly what they had in mind when they tagged the slogan, and obviously it's effective at getting people to remember their brand. Good marketing - not that any other advertising in the free world is sex based......

I think the same, I think most people do. I'm being good, jokes are too easy.

I think of Oprah too. I don't need any commercial to prompt me, either. I think of Oprah anyway.

Years ago when I advised them on a complete site re-design, before they went belly up, I recommended they choose either "The Good Stuff Cheap" or "All The Good Sh*T -Cheap!" as a needed tag line. They made hundreds of millions on my design tips without paying me a dime. Then paid some Adwhore Agency mega bucks to come up with The Big O campaign opening up pandoras box (Is that Her name?) to have the advertising mindset ruin their company.

Considering their stock performance, and profit drops, since that Branding Move... the Big O maybe stands for OOOOps. Considering they're the showcase darling of every BHO and cOuponer to come down the pike killing their own incentive Club-O... that might explain the Big O theme. Until their Adwhore agency snake charmers drive them into a Pets.com type Bankrupsy... the small affiliates counting on them for years will have to agree with me... The Big O stands for cookie Over-exposure.

That move would require I no longer post at ABW. You'd then be stuck with Haiko for thread openers and closers.

Glad to see I am not alone.

When I see the "print" O I think of Oprah too though.

One thing is for sure, weaving sex into advertising is memorable. I can think of a few off the top of my head that I normally wouldn't remember if it wasn't for the innuendos.

I do a bit of work with the hunting industry and I'll tell you what, that is one 'sexy' industry... the bow hunting portion of it especially because they have great product/part names to work with, such as "riser", "whisker biscuit" and so on. They have some really good ads out there.

You know this is the case, especially with that particular woman in the commercial. Ever notice how provocative she is (it's subtle, but it's there), especially when she "unties" her blouse (or whatever it is she's wearing), and how she casually lies around...

It's the first thing to come to my mind too..

So hopefully when the commercial girl says "It's all about the "O" she is not promoting Oprah??

Michelle - you're DEFINITELY not alone. I saw that TV commercial here in Toronto the other night and laughed to myself as well. You have to know that their marketing people are NOT oblivious to the fact that anyone who's ever read a women's magazine (ie. Cosmopolitan, etc.) would think of the "Other O" when Overstock says "it's all about the "O" - it would seem to me the objective there was to create a buzz and a buzz they did create. You won't forget them, that's for sure... LOL

When I saw the headline for the thread I was thinking tyres - Big O Tires.

If I ever need to come back as somebody else it's going to be "Need-to-get-a-life"
